How much would a good unranked 64 man server cost? One that has a reasonable ping so that people here and in UK area could play on it? $150 or so?
It would cost around $120 - $140. Well if you consider that we can all pay $10 a month, we could get one, but i tried that strategy MANY times in the past, and every month when the bill is due, there is always some people with their reasons and whoever's name is on the bill has to pay their part. It never works.

Maybe you could do it incolaberation with a clan?
Just have about 4 or 5 clans that would be willing then just take one 12 hour period and advertize the theme and rules.
That might work.

I said this before in my previous post. It doesn't work with clans. They do donate their server, they help us a lot, but this isn't for an infinite time, when the time comes, they always have right to change their server map rotation, use it for scrims or practices. We can't have that. We have to have a 24/7 running 64 player server. Which isn't going to be anybody's favor. Which we must afford and buy it and which it must have the name of totalbf2 not some X clan. This is very important for advertising the map pack, the prestige of our map team and the future of BF2 custom mapping community.
Re: some answers to -> why isn't anyone playing custom maps?
another reason why custom maps aren't more popular?
They can't be ranked. I know, it's sad, but it's true. There have been some great custom maps.
Remember when DC Al Nas was a custom map, not part of the mod at release? It was an awesome map, but no one really knew about it, until it was changed a little and added to DC Final.
That doesn't really apply here, but it kind of does. The maps are great, but weren't found on any servers until DC Final was released. Then everyone who had the mod had the map. And it was popular.
