ram affecting video card?

ok so i recently bought a stick of ram, pc3200, and added it to my sytem, giving me a total of 1749, or something like that. anyway my problem is that my computer boots up half the time, and the other times it doesnt post. by that i mean i dont get any beeps. the peculiar thing is that i get no video at all. the monitor just stays at standby, the light just stays yellow. i take the ram out and everything is fine. so my question is does ram affect video? lemme know if you have any ideas, and thanks in advance! im sure i have ll the latest drivers and what not, and i spent like 4 hours on google and here, trying to figger it out


ive got a:
AMD Athlon 64 2800 at 1.8 GHz
1.75 GB of ram(with that stick of 1 GB in there)
Nvidia Geforce FX 5600 Ultra 128 MB (v81.95)
ASUS K8N mobo (BIOS v 1009)
Thermaltake (xp550 np) 430 w PS

This happened to me several times before my RAM up and fried itself.

Are you sure that your RAM is running at the correct timings? Are the chips mis-matched, or do they all have the same timings and voltages and everything?

not sure, how do i tell? im still kinda new as far as the hardware and what not go. i know two are pc 3200, and i think on is pc2100.....i tried taking that one out, just to see if it might be that, but it didnt make a difference, the problem still occured. is that something you have to check in the BIOS?

OK firstly... the number 1 rule when buying ram is always go for the same type. If you want you RAM to be faster, replace it all.. now you might say.. well thats a waste of my perfectly working RAM, yes, but the likely hood of something like this happening when you mis-match RAM is very high. So check with your mobo to make sure that your new RAM will work with the mobo, to make sure that thats not the problem, thaen decide which RAM you want to take out. Its the harsh reality of RAM.

yea i realized that, i took out the pc2100, and everything seems to be ok. ill see if it keeps booting up normally. the two that are in there are both crucial, and while not officially endorsed for my mobo, i figger it cant be that bad can it, as long as they are the same? we will see

the voltages maybe different....that maybe why its not supported.

Yup, that's about what I thought. The mis-matched RAM is what's doing it. Sounds like you've already got that figured out and corrected, though. Just make sure to always match your RAM speeds, unless you're planning to completely replace your current modules.
