I'm wondering how BF2 players would react a game that played out very much like BF2, but be set in a near future enviroment.

The thing that occurs to me is that a lot of BF2 players seem to enjoy being able to relate to the setting. Historic and current settings/characters/situations are easier to relate to.
If you think about it, that really is one of the main draws that the BF games have running for 'em. Calling them "realistic" is rediculous, but since the setting is something you can relate to, you forgive the unrealistic aspects (or don't at all, then you spend a lot of time on forums being all angery 'n stuff).
Could you deal with a technology aprox equivent to a best guess at 75 years from now or do you think that would disrupt that ability to relate?
Feel free to over generalize and speak for others...
