HP F2105 WEIRD CRASH PROBLEM, please Ill almost pay for help!

I have been playing BF2 since launch. Just upgraded my 19"crt to lovely 21" lcd (HP f2105).However BF2 REFUSES TO LAUNCH now.

OK i thought will try the usual uninstall reinstall of BF2,ati x850xt, xfi and all latest patches. But no joy.

Ran it on my laptop and then on my old crt and it ran fine.ok.

Checked EA web and no joy there, but it does mention that bf2 launches initially 800 x 600 60hz and display must support this resolution. My lcd supports this and i have tried desktop in this res initially but again no joy.

    WTF is going on?

Any ideas anybody, I am having serious withdrawal symptoms from going bf2 cold turkey.

When you uninstalled did you check the check box that said to delete your old profiles??

If not, that is probably the cause of your problem. You see the profile contains your onld resolution and hz of your CRT monitor.

    Two ways yo fix this:

Edit video.con in ..\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001 so it says 800x600@60Hz at the relevant setting.
0001 might be named 0002 0003 or higher depending on number of profiles used at one time or another.

    OR

delete all folders in ..\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\ . This deletes all your profiles. When starting Bf2 go into Manage Accounts and then Retrieve to get your BF2 login back. This will create a new default account with your old BF2 login.

What firewall and antivirus are you using??

Make sure the firewall is properly configured.

If your antivirus has somekind of Internet worm detection, like I believe Norton has, then try and disable it.

          Dear Gunny,

Windows xp and AVG antivirus which have given me no probs.

Disabled both but still crashes to desktop.

When I applied the patch 1.3 i did not install any previous patches, would this have any bearing.Single player works fine.

          Thanks in advance,

Sounds odd, and it was a connection issue it would probably not crash.

BF2 installation puts and entry in the XP SP2 firewall's allowed list of programs that are allowed access from the outside. So take a look and se if it is still there.
Go to Network Connections -> right-click on LAN adapter and select Properties -> Advanced tab -> Settings button, and go from General to Exceptions tab. An entry for BF2 should be in there.

It probably isn't the issue seeing it didn't work with it disabled anyway.

Have you tried úpdating PunkBuster manually??

Try joining an non-pb server first, to see if that makes any difference.

              Dear Gunny,

              Thanks again for the reply.

BF2 appears in the allowed program folder under xp firewall.

Tried BF2 on non punkbuster and no joy.

Updated PB manually and again no joy.

Searched for old monitor but cannot find anything.

Dont you just love computers, PS3 here I come!
