    Calculating the better player

    BF2 community,

can someone explain how the team score and combat score are calculated? I'm looking for a way to determine which players are overal better than others. A K/D ratio is a good sign but then it could be because the medic kept healing the assult guy.

Just curious if anyone can share with me the details of how the combat score and team score are being calculated.

You're about to receive a lot of differing suggestions coupled with endless arguing.

      Pretty sure it's...

      Combat Score:

      Kill: 2 pts
      Kill Assist: 1 pt

      Teamwork:

      Flag Capture: 2 pts
Flag Defend, Flag Assist, Resupply, Heal, Revive, Repair, Driver Kill Assist, Driver Ability Assist: 1pt

yes, no arguements here please. All I want to know is what actions gets added to the teamwork score and combat score.

Higher numbers don't mean better players.
Often, very high numbers mean they like to stick to doing one thing and nothing else. That makes them very poor players for the team.

On the other hand, some players with low numbers are fantastic team players and the kinds of guys you want to have around.

I know that when I personally go gunnin for high scores, I feel like I'm not supporting the team. When I go all out on behalf of the team, my scores tend to be smaller, but more often than not, we win.

Take a look at the score totals at the end of rounds. It's very common to see the highest scores on the losing team. Not always, but common enough to give you pause.

Wargimp - I agree with your statements for the most part. I also tend to goof off/experiment a bit more on the ranked servers than I do during scrims/ladders/leagues.

There is something to be said for a guy who gets 50 kills and little else.

              He has:
              - Directly robbed the other team of 50 tickets
              - Locked 50 players into 15 second spawn delays, totaling 12.5 minutes of the other team being down at least one man
              - Reduced the number of battlefield threats to his own team
              - Altered battlefield momentum by requiring the other team to restart at a spawn point, delaying time to engagement

Just another viewpoint. Ultimately, a team needs both types of players.

Combination of Accuracy, K/D, and time in vechicals is a good indicator to how well someone is fighting wise. If someone has 1.5 kd, 24 accuracy with assult rifles, and less then 10 % in armor then you can say hey they are good, but if someone has a 5.1 kd, 18 accuracy with all weapons, and 95% time in a tank theres no way to tell. Points mean nothing due to the fact they are linked to time played rather then skill. On another note, Score per minute is a decent indication to how well someone plays but the whoring aspect aplies to that as well.

Find your domain name at HugeDomains. Start using this domain right away.

Far superior rating system than EAs. EA should have learned from them.

Agreed. I'm just cautioning against seeing the numbers as a rating of "how good" a player is.

I've seen snipers kill their way up to 100+ scores by uslessly camping spawn points.

I've seen Support guys give away my possition while greedilly tossing out loads of ammo packs.

I've seen medics reviving guys in the middile of firefights, only to get them and themselves killed again.

On the flip side, I've seen players using vehicles to run other players back and forth between spawn and capture points. People who will spot hords of enemies even tho they have lousy aim (thus allowing the team to get an advantage). I've seen players willingly sacrafic themselves as distractions while the rest of the team get things done or move out of danger.

I naturally don't trust numbers because they never tell the whole story.

By far the best player in this game is the guy that constantly looks at the map to see the status of flags and sacrifices themselves to get flags that are not yet captured and puts the team infront of thier own personal score...

im a lone wolf, but i dont go and kill everything that moves and leave my teammates to fend for them selfs when capping flags, since i play spec ops alot, i go into an area alone, whether i be out numberd, or armor around, i try my best to clear the area of anything so my team can come and help me cap it, its not a ground combat i clear out any armor with a helo or jet, as im killing wich is fun seeing points go up, i dont sit and camp thats to boring, i like to earn em playing for fun and helping my team

A sign of a good player would be a high win to loss ratio, a high kill to death ratio and a good team work score in relative to there combat score.
