Game acts weird after connection

I join, it leaves me with the screen as if the map was changing. 0 - 0 on the team ticker. I cant join a team. I cant esc out. I can see whats going on so its not a connection problem. I can play other graphically intensive games, so its not video. This just started happening one day out of the blue?

specs (my comp seems fine)
amd athlon xp 2800+
ati radeo x700 256mb
1gb of ram

that would be bf2. dont post that here in the "battlefield 2 special forces" part. its for the other one... and about the problem, my guess would be maybe you deleted a critical file or something along those lines. i would just re-install bf2 and try again.
