Helicopter "How do you ..." question

Okay, so I've been going around trying to figure this out for a while now, and I just can't quite get it. So I figured I'd ask here, and see if somebody could help me out.

I'm trying to do a barrel roll in a helo. Yet I just cannot get it to work! I've seen it done, I know some people are able to do it (and I've seen it shake off a would-be pursuer who thought they were turning around). But could someone give me some advice as to how to pull this off on my own? I use a keyboard and mouse, so is this even possible? Do I have to change my pitch/roll settings at all (they're currently at 6 each)? What's the general motion of the helo from the pilot's seat? This is driving me nuts, here! Any help would be appreciated.

p.s: I'm also not too confident in my loop-de-loop abilities; I only get it about 40% of the time without crashing ... any tips there, too?

p.p.s: Actually, if you have any other sweet maneuvers, please share them too!

you have to be high up in the air for it to work, otherwise you'll skid along the ground and probably get punished for teamkills! it works best with the attack choppers. you can pretty much forget it with the BH unless you're feeling lucky and you're way up in the sky.

Ive managed to loop using keyboard buttons but i always use the mouse to fly so it dosent really matter to me. :)
But to do it with keyboard you just gain alot of height and then press the 'down arrow'... thats it.
Im gonna practice next time i play and see if i can roll with the heli... You might find it easier using a bigger mouse pad...

        OK, lets get some clarification.

The side roll or "barrel" roll:
Best to try this in the USMC cobra over sea. Your altitude show on your hud is "the height above seal level" so it's best to do get used to using this out at sea. For the cobra you need approximately 46-48 feet to pull off the manoeuver. Level off. Apply full throttle & full bank left/right. About 90% of the way through, apply full bank in the other direction to cancel the momentum, and pull back a little as well. This will level you off again about 2-5 feet off the water.
Now adjust the height when on land & you should be fine.

Tip1: This is best used for avoiding a pursing plane or staionary aa missiles. It is semi effective at avoiding other choppers, and sometimes mobile aa. Be aware if you use this in conjunction with forward movement (i.e tilting forward) you will very quickly realise the ground is not your friend. Make sure you get some height if going forward as well.

Tip2: In order to pull this off with a lower height & or tighter roll, get a bit of a swinging motion going. Bank left until 20% into the roll, then right 20% until you get a swinging movement going. A sort of rough U shape. At the top of the u, perform the roll, in the opposite direction. Momentum is very helpful in these rolls.

Tip3: Consecutive rolls will quickly get tighter/smaller & more difficult to pull out of, but are very effective for avoiding a persistent jet pilot/ aa site. Just make sure to get a lot of height(±100ft for 3 or more) before performing them.

        The Backflip or "Loop-de-Loop":
The cobra requires ±80 feet to perform this. Full throttle, full tilt backwards. About 75-80% of way through, full tilt forwards until you roughly level off keeping forward momentum going. If you need to remain in the same position, tilt forward about 90-95% of the way through, this will bring you nose up just enough to jeep you from going forward. This is best used if you see a tank too close to do a dive on, but would take too long to slowly "float" down. It will put you at the right level in a matter of seconds.

Tip1: Don't try avoid aa or planes using this technique. It just gives them a bigger slower target while begining the loop. Best to use the barrel roll for this. This however is very useful to avoid the attack chopper as he can't decend fast enough & keep track of you. It is just about impossible to hit someone doing a loop with the missiles but be aware it leaves you vulnerable to the TV missile for a second or so, so make sure he has just fired or won't have the time to hit you.

        ____________________________________________

Sorry if it's unclear, I don't know the full technical terms for chopper movement, but that doesn't stop me from flying well . Hope this helps someone.

          use keyboard only.

I was actually just trying this the other day in a blackhawk. For me it is easiier to do a "loop de loop" I needed about 50-60 feet to accomplish this and used keyboard and mouse. It basically consisted of dragging the mouse down over and over till I got all the way over. Make sure you are straight and not by any mountains before trying it. Oh and and you can forget doing it in a sea cow....

Altitude is your friend. At certain altitudes u can do some really crazy stuff and not have to worry about crashing.

'Tis true about the blackhawk needing less height. Needs about 60-65ft for me to do a loop & 55 for a roll. You can do all the stunts in all the choppers. Just need a bit of practice & remember to look at your altitude. Land on the ground to see what height it is & add the amount it take to do the manoeuver. The cow is loads of fun but so slow & has hugh momentum when looping. Check out my stunt vid if you need examples : Clcik me

& yes, I know it's not the best editing, but it was my first ever vid.

i use keyboard and mouse too. i switch to the arrow keys when flipping or rolling on b/c it is more responsive. hold the key down until you are about 3/4 of the way through. then switch to the other key, if your rolling left, hit the right key, this will stop your momentum so you dont roll over again. this works pretty much the same for doing backflips. the key is stopping your momentum at the right time. hope that helped
