    what's BF2 clan gaming like?

i have limited experience in clans on TFC and CS, but i have yet to see what BF2 is like. i saw the ladders on various leagues or whatever and matches are only 12v12 which sounds kind of lame to me. can you even fly aircraft? or is it just boring infantry and armor fights?

Re: what's BF2 clan gaming like?

8v8 is far more competitive than 12v12, in terms of "recognition" and stuff.

12v12 is sometimes fun but VERY-much-so different than 8v8. 12v12 promotes those clans with amazing pilots who are able to keep helicopters and planes down for an entire round, while 8v8 is more infantry/vehicle based.

12v12 is often hectic, confusing, hard as hell for the commander, and dominated by air vehicles (go figure  )

8v8 is extremely fun and challenging, as you must perfectly coordinate strategies in order to do well, and a simple mistake can cost you the round. They are very tense, very fun, and very competitive. Best of all, winning counts (if you are in a league) and like anything that is competitive, winning always feels good.

There is a LOT of strategy and pre-planning involved, and frequently a single flag in 8v8 is all that is needed to win a round. A choke-point or a flag that provides you with an attack chopper can easily change the outcome of a match, so it often comes down to who has a better strategy and teamwork.

If you really want to get into some clan-based stuff, try ringing for some clans in scrimmages (idle in #findbf2scrims (i think thats right) on gamesurge IRC server) and youll get a good idea of what competitive BF2 is like.

Oh, and theres nothing better than playing with a good group of guys in a team-environment without worrying about scores/tking/douschebags stealing your plane/etc.

To keep the other teams jets/helos on the ground... and erhmm... just simply to tactically annoy the crap out of the other team

Re: what's BF2 clan gaming like?

i havent been in a BF2 clan, but i suppose jet pilots need to bomb the flag that is being captured by the enemies while other teammates are moving to the position for defense. cuz jets are faster than any ground vechiles, so i guess it's supposed to be the first one to attack/defend a position.

did a few matches on my league. 16 player maps are used, that way you get helicopters. And you can play anywhere from 2v2 - 8v8. on a 32 player map to play 8v8 is just too long and gets boring.
you have people on coms, things run smoothly. Everyone knows what they are doing and what needs to be done. None of this helicopter whoring crap. Commanders do their jobs.
Clan matches are so much better!

If you wanna see matches, register at gotfrag.com and in the bf2 section they have demos of quite a few matches. You can check out the arguably best team in bf2, 20id. They seem to really focus on strats and timing and they have exceptional teamwork.

Damn straight...:) We've played 5v5 infantry and 8v8 matches, and have scrimmed anywhere from 5v5 to 12v12.

As far as the questions about jet whores, etc... You'd be surprised to see very little use of airpower, unless we're talking 12v12 on a 32 player map. Almost all of our matches have been on 16 player maps, and the extent of the air power comes down to fighting over the 1 helo spawn on a map like Dalian Plant.

It is VERY chaotic... Abuse of the SL position is constant...if 4 of 5 guys at a flag die, that 5th guy has to immediately become SL so that the other 4 can respawn on him. Or sometimes 1 person will flank, and I'll be watching it as commander, and all of the sudden, that one guy turns into 5 :)

The 5v5 infantry only matches are a blast. No vehicles, no artillery. All other commanding is allowed - so I spend alot of time guarding our main flag and telling the other 4 guys where the enemy is headed.

You do see plenty of M203/GP30 action, and dolphin diving

In 8v8's, Tanks aren't used like they are in pubs, they are not front-line weapons. Instead they are behind the lines, used more like an artillery piece. Attempting to steal the enemies' tank happens as well, and if they steal it, don't expect it to be out front ever again lol, they'll use their tank to take the dmg, so if it gets killed it'll respawn on their side, and they'll protect the stolen posession like its made of gold...

But overall, lots of fun, much better to play for a purpose other than rank, and to be playing alongside 5-8-12 other guys in TS.

If you want to set up some scrims, my xfire is j22, or you can just pm me... my clan is always looking for scrims, i never pub anymore.

My favorite map for 5v5 infantry matches is Sharqi.... had some awesome matches there.
