    The difference lighting makes...

    My settings are
    Terrain, Effects Geometry: High
    Texture, Lighting: Medium
Dynamic Shadows, Dynamic Light, Texture Filtering: Low
    2X AA

For the bottom screenshot, I just changed lighting to low. Pretty huge difference, huh? Hell, you can even see the difference in the thumbnails! There aren't many places where this is a big deal in BF2 -- it's not really a big difference in this shot as you can easily see enemies laying around. But, hopefully it doesn't become a serious problem in SF.

Figured it would be obvious, but the lower screenshot is with lighting set to low. I'll clarify the first post.

There is some tech guide someone posted that explained all the light setting differences.

While you can see people hiding in dark areas... it seems to take away from the game for me.. But I am not a point whore who has to see everything.

Yea, the Tweak Guides thing was what prompted me to try it myself. The picture in their guide isn't quite as shocking as this one because it just shows a little patio on a building and it looks like no big deal. These broken out buildings are so common in BF2, and I know I've been killed several times by people hiding in corners (and have been killed while hiding in those corners), so this was the point I chose to check out.. First place I checked and I was pretty shocked.

I put the lighting back to medium because the eye candy is part of the fun for me :) Besides, I mainly play on an unranked server, so the extra 4 or 5 deaths don't much matter.

              Quite a big difference there!
Currently I can not run the game on anything but low, however upgrading soon so will be much better. To be honest to be sad enough to run it at lower settings juts to give yourself an advantage is stupid, I would much prefer to see the game as it was meant to be seen.
Cant wait to ramp up my graphics :)

this is indeed crap and didn't know this, I will keep my settings to high because it looks just better, but people using it low have a big advantage, this is again proof DICE sucks

Me? Or someone in general? I changed it because the Tweak Guide and someone's mention of dynamic lighting on another forum caught my interest.. Had to check it out.

Other folks would drop it down because they don't have a strong system, or because they're doing whatever it takes to win and don't care about the game looking good.. They're trying to get 150FPS out of their 7800GTX so they can get that .01sec drop on someone.

I use to play with the lighting in low, but then after teh 1.03 patch raised it back up to medium. Hasn't really effected my score either way, I still kill and die like normal.

I have everything on low or off except:

                        - View Distance at 100%
                        - Geometry at Ultra High

I use low because my card chokes on high - woohoo - bonus for me! heh

I would rather be all on high.

it doesn't really make a difference if someone is using low settings to get an advantage over people. most people set the gamma/brightness on their monitors to extreme levels anyway.
