looks alright - at least the dimensions are right - i got a good question for you though - how did you get the panel lines in? i would give you a thousand praises if you could answer this...

wha? anyhoo i'm very very very new to modelling (2 days now)... heres my first model....

its done in gmax - all models i do from now will be on 3ds... admittedly i just learnt to skin (look at my stuff for project singularity on front page) and i think this gave me a better concept of modelling - what do you think?

as i said - how did you make the panel lines?

Nice, did you make it with spline or box modelling? (I guess in that case the panelinglines where made with different boxes).

Btw JimBob, if you want comments on your modeling please make a new thread, and dont post your models in other ppls threads.

yeah sorry - i thought garrison and globalfear were same guy (only registered the "G" lol) very sorry garrison

i see how you did them now - i thought they were neat little inward bevels on a flat surface... what you have done is better of course but it would be interesting to know how to do that (other than boolean subtract the edge of a box out of it)...

No They are seperate Planes on different levels. I'll model a plane extrude an edge. The trick is just to keep everything straight and dont mix vertices up on your XYZ's

Its coming along. The sights are off, it could be smoother in alot of places, a few pieces are proportioned wrongly, but its coming along...

Hard to explain with words exactly what is wrong, but for starters, the diopeter sights are not that large, nor do they cave in like that. The piece under the circle of the sight hole is much too large, and there isn't the secondary sight in sight(no pun intended) either.

Thanks for the Input... its still a WIP. Some pieces I havents bothered smoothing yet as I do it everytime b4 I render.

                        my current work.. a RUGER AC556 MINI-14

hey guys...do you implement moving parts?

i am about to work on the folding stock portion and upper receiver...
when you guys do your work, do you make the charging handle moving so that the animation guys can use it? HOW DOES THIS WORK when you have to model and when working with moving parts??

It all depends on the animations. You can still have an animation that utilizes the chargin handle and not have it as a moving part. The proper animation can hide that the piece does not move.
