Tv Guided snipering!

Hi i was playing around on a lan game with my bro recently and we were trying out this new tactic of flying out to sea e.g. on gulf of oman with the attack chopper and firing the tv guided missiles towards the land, and guiding them onto targets way inland . it worked really well and we could take out most stationary tanks etc. but there is a limit on the missile distance and you also need to know where the targets are roughly in the first place. we found that the limint of the missiles was from the carrier on gulf of oman to the middle base on the beach and was capable of hitting the apc!
i was just wondering if anybody uses this tactic regularly? because i have never seen it done on servers before.

I do this on Dalian Plant if I am on US side, as we take off I fire a missile off onto land see if I hit the AA on the docks, done it a couple of times it's a bit tricky but very satisfying.

I always fire off missiles into the distance to kind of "scout ahead" especiially on wake as there is always someone who jumps into the Type98 at the north flag. :)

A lot of attack choppers do this against OTHER attack choppers...which is the main reason I try to get off the ground and MOVING to the side as quickly as possible.

I do that all the time as the gunner. The problem with most pilots is that they take off nose down.

My favorite shot is off the carrier in Dragon Valley - get it over the hill and back down the other side into the base along the river - or over at the pagoda, etc.

Once you get off the carrier and almost to land you can take out the 2 aa on the middle island.

We do the same, the range on the TV is around 600 meters.

The best TV gunner I ever had in a helo was on Dalian Plant-64, we spawned at the back middle flag (china) and took the 2nd Z10. As I was lifting off, he fired in succession 2 TV's, past the cooling towers towards the Essex. 1st one took out a full BH, 2nd one took out the Cobra. I ended up hovering near the shoreline and he ran through all of his TV's, taking out the essex gun, cobra, etc.. as they tried to get off the carrier.

And as mentioned, its a great way to 'scout' for things.

I do the samething It's great fun & gives your boats a chance to get to land. Second shot goes to other side where the other tanks is

I don't think I like this tactic because last night as I was on GoO, after I spawned first, I was kind of waiting at the MEC base (for lag issues to sort out, etc.) and I watched volley after volley of TV guided missiles coming over the mountain, and hitting the MEC attack chopper each time it spawned. It must have been like 13 successful volleys. So the cobra must have been on the Essex (??)
Every time a MEC jumped in the chopper, blammo. :/
I told the guy to get some skills and then promptly exited the game so I could go practice the very same tactic on an empty server :laugh:

Play a Cal or TWL match. The better team's chopper pilots\gunners are aces at this. They use the 3rd map flags as landmarks and just sit way off and guide the missiles in.

Makes for some long rounds :)
