I QUIT.......maybe

A couple of weeks ago I installed a new HD. Along with this the new msn security center was installed. I immediately noticed my ping was double. My ping usually runs 40-60, now it runs 105-130. Four days ago I shut down the msn security stuff and my ping dropped back to normal. Happy day's.......not a chance. Played most of sunday with no problems. After a few hours I began to notice lag. It got worse and worse. Even trying to quit the game was extremely slow. By the time I got back to desktop I was convinced something had attacked my computer. In the last few days i've run numerous ass/spy/virus scans. Nothing.

Now when I try to log on to a server (timed it this morning) it takes 40 min. Takes just as long to get off. Once I was on a server my ping looked great (36) but gameplay was impossible. Massive lag.

I'm convinced that security crap is responsible, but I'm not smart enough to proove it. Any idea's ?

Use ZoneAlarm and AVG or Avast Anti-virus. They are free and don't take up a lot of system resrouces either.

Yeah try avg or microsoft anti spyware. Anyway msn comes with several stuff that "could" cause harm to ure pc, ive noticed when using microsoft antipspyware some bits of msn messenger pop up but i know there not a real threat. I think it must be that msn security thing definalty check wiv Microsoft antispyware, hope it helps

Did you also purchase a router? I had to disconnect mine cause BF2 uses certain ports and I didn't know how to open them. Tech support from India is useless!

You don't have to configure any ports for BF2 to play on servers. Unless you have a very complex non standard setup (which you would only have ifyou knew what you were doing). Only time you need to configure ports would be if you were going to setup a server on the internet.

Well my Linksys router firewall gave me performance issues with internet. Page 19 of the BF2 manual talks about routers and the ports that BF2 uses.

No router. Although, I had one hooked up sometime back with no problem
