    Tactical wishlist

    First:
    As a squadleader I have trouble making my squad follow me (and thats not me :) ). At best half the suad is following me, some are even on the other side of the map.

    My solution:
    Give players two spawn options once they are in a squad:
    At the squadleader or at the nearest spawpoint to the squadleader (and if dead, the nearest spawn to the place he died.

    Second: Too many small (even 1-player-:wall: ) squads

    My solution: server setting to the minimum size a squad has to be before a new squad can be formed (or a perfect world in wich people always join the biggist squad :yay: )

    Third: make it possible for the squadleader to define the classes that can be chosen (squads composition).

    Fourth:
    Make it possible to issue orders to specific players of your squad. And give more orders at once; like "mine" and "defend"

    All these options can be server settings ofcourse for all you Rambo:guns:-style:shoot:-lovers:ar15: out there.

    I wonder how many people in the community are with me on these settings?
    And what are your pros and cons?

    While these are good thoughts, as all things, they look good on paper.
    However, I shall imply my constructive critisism.

    1 .The reason you can't spawn on a SL after he has died is because that would just cause endless ammounts of soldiers attacking the enemy who killed the SL. That would cause an unfair advantage.

    2. What about the players who have clans or good friends that want to start their own squad? How about a cap on how many 1-2 person squads there can be?

    3. While it's a nice idea, that takes away personalization, people don't like it when you take their freedom, as much as it's needed, that wouldn't work.

    One thing, that is a little bit irrelavent to this but I'd still like to add it because it goes with the subject:
    I was under the impression that you could paint targets for aircraft to call in other players for an air strike, what happened there? That would have been an awesome idea.

      1. No, then the option "the nearest friendly spawn to where the squadleader died" is chosen.

      2. These are serverside settings that can be turned off. So friends need to join another server (visible in browser) or wait for the first squad to fill.

      3.These are serverside settings that can be turned off. And can be turned on or off by the squadleader.

      Extra: the idea of the "target painting" was taken out (read it somewhere in all the interviews we ate :) before release) because it was to hard to coördinate these attacks online.

      And thx for the input :) .

        you cant get a cap on 1-2 player squads, cause then you cant create a new squad anymore. coming back to the thing of a clan or a group of friends who want to make a squad.

        try this. you can no longer spawn as SL until you have a squad of at least 3.

        or no spawning AT SL until the squad is 3 or more players.

        another idea would be playing on only a single server. just look for the right one, one where you find some people you get along with or can rely on in a squad. just find you some players with the same thoughts as you.
        WORK IN THE CHAIN OF COMMAND.

        or even allow SL and Commanders give their lower ranks a "grade" based on their loyalty and performance in a squad. this wuld do nothin for your current scores but would be an added grade, visible in the statistics. so you can see if you want someone to be in your squad or not. something like that. BUT you would also have to make it the other way and combine the SM with the Commander scores. wich is currently rated a bit by the team score, but NOT BY SQUAD SCORE.

        one minimod has that thing to call for airstrike.

          The 4th point is a good one.
          Restricting the number of squads, spawnpoints or forcing people into squads, however, might have adverse effects. If people want to play with their friend or by themselves, you can't make them do otherwise. If people don't want to do whatever their squad leader is doing, trying to force them won't help, but just **** them off.

          Let those who want to go rambo do so - but give plenty of incentives to teamplay.

          The third idea is not a good idea at all, and would be really unpopular. A squad leader is just a darn player like everyone else, he shouldn't get the ability to limit the others' freedom in the game. If someone forced my to play a class I don't like, you can bet I'd leave the squad, or the server if needed.

            1. OK, you can just kick them from your squad, I agree.

            2. You would be able to see in the game interface if the squadleader can dictate the classes. Maybe not a real necesary tactical tool, a all special forces squad would be nice though (because of the enemy radar).

              I agree with all of them apart from 3. People want to be what class they like, telling them wot they can and cant be is a no no. Good points none the less =)

                My apologies for misunderstanding #1, however, those other two sound like they are just going to complicate the game more than it needs to be :P I don't see how 'target painting' would be hard, they use it for artillary etc. Bad move on EA's end.

                  Re: Tactical wishlist

                  I think the addition of squads is one of the best features of of BF 2.
                  The "buddy list' in Vietnam really helped make it easier to play with friends and it has been improved with squads.

                  1. If the SL dies while going to an objective, some one has two options already. They can easily pick any spawn point that is close to the objective already. Some times it's better to spawn some where else if there is a chance that there will be vehicles there or that the person can get to the object will less resistance.

                  But this is why I normally do. If I die, then my squad leader (which is almost always a buddy of mine) dies, I will wait until he spawns and spawn with him. Because some times he will spawn somewhere other than the closest base to the objective. Some times he will change the objective.

                  In general, I find enough people don't spawn on the SL regularly. They will spawn some where else. The only disadvantage of spawning on the SL is if there is no transportation that can carry all that are in the squad.

                  2. I agree that 1 player squads are fairly useless. But my buddy and I tend to be in two player squads and we do quite well. This allows us to see each other, talk to each other, and I know what we are doing at any given moment. Because he normally marks the objective on the map, an aware commander will know what we are doing. I don't think you can do much in the area.

                  3. As been stated before, you can't force people in playing a kit. But you can always kick them from the squad if they are playing a useless kit (sniper) or if the squad has too many of a given kit. Heck, we will kick people from our squad if they tend to fly in planes or helicopters. The only exception is if the helicopter actually assists us and attacking a base.

                  I agree with the intent of your post. A good squad makes a big difference in the fun factor of this game. The best games I have played was because we had a decent size squad working together.

                  Since people's stats and points seem to be very important to them, I think the game should have added some extra incentive to be in a squad. One idea is that you get extra points for being the top squad? A more realistic approach would be to reward a squad member for accomplishing an objective. This has it's faults and they would need to be worked out. But as it stands, there is no obvious advantage to join a squad for most people.

                    would've been nice if you could give multiple commands that would go in order like...

                    O-------------- |1| ------------ |2| ------------ |3|

                    O = player
                    1= move
                    2= move
                    3= attack

                    so you could coordinate assaults better.

                    sometimes going straight at the enemies flag isn't the best route

                    giving individual players separate orders would've been spiffy too

                      The only problem with the current Squad spawn arrangement is that the SLs are essentially 'leading from behind', their most effective tactic is to hunker down in a quiet spot near the objective and act as a spawn point while allowing the squad members to attack instead.

                        That's what every good Squad Leader SHOULD do. Not act as a merc.

                        Clans have it down, it's hard to do it with random pubbers.

                          One thing I do, if I am SL and I die, and I know I have SM around where I died - I leave the squad and then come back. Then we have a new squad and I can spawn right back there.

                          I see it all the time with clan play - VERY effective tactic - can be seen as cheating by some I am sure. So be it. It works - and I even saw it working well in a pub server just this past weekend. The squad kicked ass - and it was due to awesome cooperation in the full squad.

                          edit: PS - it is not even thanksgiving - pretty early for an xmas post isn't it? lol

                            I wont be as anal as most everyone else, i get what your trying to say.

                            1 and 2 are really awsome ideas

                            2 and 4 would require a lot more "managment" time of the squad leader
