You would only need to run BF2CPU01.BAT everytime, it acts just like a shortcut.

You can also create a shortcut to BF2CPU01.BAT and then change the icon of shortcut to that of BF2.exe and you wouldn't see any difference.

      ok, that sounds ideal
btw do you know, does setting the affinity make the process use a specific core? - so if you set the affinity of the BF2 process to 1, then BF2 would only use core number 1
is that how it works ?

Yes that is correct. You can check if it has done it correctly by ALT+TAB out of the game and go into Task Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) then go to PROCESS tab and find BF2.exe and right-click and select Set Affinity.
From there you can also set it, but it is more cumbersome than using the imagecfg or the batchfile, but a good way to verify it.

Also just typing process -a bf2.exe displays the affinity without setting it.

Before the AMD 64 X2 CPUs were released some ppl did the same as you suggest with imagecfg for their Intel P4 with HyperThreading, e.g. here:

I hadn't tried the process.exe at that time.

          ok thanks
another thing i am now wondering, i have a 4400, so is setting BF2 to use core no1, then equal to having half the speed of the 4400, or do both cores run at 4400 ?
sorry for all the questions, but you are one of the few ppl that seem to know whats going on with dual core, i certainly dont know much

Will process.exe remain in the list of processes even after closing bf2?

Also, this should be stickied since it affects all x2 users and it works.

It runs at the same speed even when using one core. The CPU speed isn't 4400Mhz if you are wondering, the 4400s run at 2200Mhz, just like my 3700+ also runs at 2200Mhz but mine of course is just a single core. 4400+ (or 3700+) is just AMDs way of comparing to Intel speeds.

Applications/Games would have to be written with specifically multiple processors in mind to take utilization of the dual core or HyperThreading or even real dual CPUs.

So e.g. putting two P4s in a PC wouldn't do anything good in gaming unless the game is coded to take advantage of it.

No it exits just after doing its thing, just like if you run a command like dir or similar.
If you run the game from normal shortcut again, bf2.exe's affinity will still be to both CPUs/cores.

Can you specify which method didnt work for you? We've had a high success rate using the first method.

Well i downloaded the program and followed the instructions. Everything went just fine but after playing a few rounds it still crashes to desktop. Cant say about the judgering stuff yet because it only happens sometimes and even then its on only one map dragon valley.
