Editing Software

so far i've been using Windows Movie Maker and it has done what i wanted, until now. i'm looking for a really good editing program that will convert to MPEG2 when i'm finished. i've been told that adobe premiere would be great but i want to be sure before i spend $200.

i'm sure some of you have used this software and other software. any comments about it and some other software before i make a purchase?

Adobe Premiere Pro is the best you can get for the PC. Hands down. Not to mention its compatable with After Effects, Photoshop, etc.. all the adobe products basicly.
However, it does have a big price tag. (I have heard that it is hard to use.. I have no problem with it, its probibly becasue I pushed myself to learn it at such a young age I forgot all about learning it)




Im not sure what everone else.. some use sony's vegas software and some others..

Adobe Premiere 1.5 and Sony Vegas Video 6 are the industry standards. Both are expensive and do it all.

I'm not sure if Premiere exports to MPEG 2 though, I assume you want that format because you want it on DVD? If so you don't need to get a program that exports in that format though, m ost DVD burning software converts to that format which you can either burn or just have as a MPEG 2 file.

The best thing by far about Premiere though is multiple audio layers, Windows Movie maker only has 1 meaning you have to decide between music or sound. In my current movie in one short action scene (I'm manually editing and adding sound, not using the games recordings) I have 24 Audio layers.

Premiere is an awesome program, editing is easy, just as or even easier than Movie Maker, more layers and overall just an easier and better editing 'experience'. Anyway price is an issue so if you have the money go for it.

Basically you can just have lots of layers of audio so you can have more sound. For a picture of what I mean look at http://adffilms.adfclan.com/ the latest news post shows the audio layers for my movie.

You could have sound effects on one layer and music on another, this way you can have both playing.

The most powerfull tool at the moment.
Some ppl. still flaming about vegas, cause there is no official 3rd-party-plugin support...(and a crap divx handling) But hey.. Vegas 6.0 Basic got more plugins/effects by default then Adobe Premiere + After Effects together..

I am using Sony Vegas also.
I think it's a little bit better then Adobe, you can add more effects and better compressing. I 've tried Adobe but switched back.

So for me..good old Sony.

But what are the types of effects?
Usually in professional videos, you wont see any of those windows movie maker- like transitions, just fades or something innovative..

so even if it does have more effects, you will most likley wont be using them at all in a professional movie (However do them at your will in a lesiure video)

Nein, Premiere Pro 1.5 for the win, Iv gotten to grips with it quite well using tutorials such as those from wrigleytutorials so its worth the buy

i think i'll go with adobe premiere, i got vegas 6 (freebie) and i dont like it.

BurnTheWeed - to your sig, i've seen many ppl running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. so i think Pac-Man did effect kids.
