Master/First Sergeant badges/points question.

Hi all,
When you hit 20000 points, and dont have one of the badges for First Sergeant, you get Master Sergeant.

Does this mean that after the promotion at 20000, as soon as you get all the badges do you get promoted to First Sergeant?

I have 3 badges and 900 points to go to 20000, should I put in the work for the 3 badges before I hit 20000?

As far as I know, once you go down a certain path, you cannot switch over halfway through. If you get Master Sergeant at 20k, then when you go for your next rank, you will be going for Master Gunnery Sergeant, not Sergeant Major.

Though I would say it is still worth it to get all the badges you missed, because there are MANY medals that require certain badges, that you will be uneligible for if you don't have the badges.

First Sergeant and Master Sergeant are considered equal when it comes to picking who gets commander, and it really is only cosmetical (just looks).

This is a good question that I have been pondering myself. I have about 3000 points to go until I get 20k. All I lack in badges is the Basic Knife for First Sergeant. I would be furious if I got the 20k, got Master Sergeant and then found out that I couldn't get First Sergeant because I didn't have my knife first.

Any insight into this by current First Sergeants would be greatly appreciated.

I'd say get the badge... I was missing basic transport and was within 200 points of 1st Sgt. I made sure to get the badge, so that when I hit 20K I got the 1st Sgt promotion (does help when I want to command).

Actually, I just found the answer.

It is also worth noting that the upper ranks are not progressive. You will only earn one rank per point bracket. If you make it to Master Sergeant without the awards, you will not be promoted to First upon earning the missing awards.

I'm not a first sarge, but I am a master sarge that hit the rank AND THEN finished up with my pistol and knife badges. No, it did not promote me from Master to First so theres a good chance that the decision is make at the 20k mark and then forgotten.

That could also be the knife badge gltich however as when I had enough kills for basic it gave me basic and vet at the same time. I hear that can be an issue with making it to First sarge as well.

Well, I got the badges (knife was a real pain), and got promoted. BUT, I got an unexpected message when I logged in the next time.



On getting First Sergeant, it now says that my next rank is Master Gunnery Sergeant. UBAR doesnt have a next rank for First Sergeant. I think that the Master Gunnery Sergeant details are wrong.

Also, UBAR doesnt mention that there is an unlock available for First Sergeant, which there is...

ok the thing is, u need to get all the required badges before u reach the promotion pts. if u dont get all the required badges when u reach 20000, u get master sergeant, which is like mine. You dont get promoted even if u get the badges after.

But it's not like what the other guy said, "you cant be sergeant major if you are a master sergeant". It's NOT correct. Yes you can, but again, you need to get all the required badges as stated on BF2s.com.

OK it's quite simple

If you have badges required for first you will become one
If you don't you become Master (even if you earn after you are still a Master)

From then if you get all badges after 20K, next promotion you become Sergeant Major, if you don't then you are Master Gunnery

To get CSM over MGS you also need the transportation badge, and I believe ground defense. My bf2s.com stats said I was promotable to 1st sgt, but needed transportation badge to get CSM. I already had the ground defense that's why I am not sure if it is a requirement.

This is absolutely correct. At least this is what happened in my case.

**Requirements for Sergeant Major:
· Basic Armor
· Basic Transport
· Basic Helicopter
· Basic Aviator
· Basic Air Defense
· Basic Ground Defense

These are what is required for sergeant Major, the only badges not required for any rank are Explosive Ordinance and commander

Doh! I missed that and knocked myself out getting the Boomer's badge.
Ah well. Now I have a nice 'n shiney full set anyway.
