Crash to desktop - please help

whenever i try to launch a multiplayer game, it starts to load, then about half way through loading (60ish percent) bf2 crashes back to the desktop

i've read the post with the check if the registry key is there, and it is (i don't have bf1942, so i can't uninstall it)

i've just reinstalled windows xp and installed bf2, then 1.01, then 1.03 and then 1.03 - didn't have this problem before i reinstalled windows

i'm running a P4 2.66GHz, Radeon X700, 1.5Gb RAM

I have the exact same problem. Soon as I hit multiplayer game crashes to desktop. This just started like 2 days ago for no apparent reason.

Yikes!! No help seems to be coming frodo. Looks like fri nite bf2 is out of the question. Does anyone have any thoughts as to why the above problem is happening?

I have the same prob guys. I got some help but nothing works. My onl;y solution is to give up the game.

i had this problem too, nothing suggested in the two threads i was in helped. actually, i reset my cd key and instead of crashing it says the key is in use. EA's help site says when that happens despite resetting with proper key you will have to reinstall.

i am SICK OF THIS BS. great game, too much garbage. didnt do anything to my system, it just started crashing. screw you EA

after downloading some diagnostic software from the net, i have discovered one of my sticks of RAM was getting lots of errors, but bf2 still crashes. after doing more diagnostic stuff, i think i've narrowed the problem down to the north-bridge of my motherboard, chip-set fan had stopped spinning, and chip-set was overheating, i think my motherboard is screwed

its not the motherboard or ur comp, i have perfectly fine stuff in my comp, when i open bf2... it crashes back to desktop!! just re-install the game, that should get things back to normal

I had the same problem when I patched v1.03. When I first patched I had a patch failed error and after numerous uninstall/installs I was ready to ship the game back to EA or use the discs as frisbees. But then I tried a manual patch (EA tech support pages walk you through the steps). it finally loaded the patch "sucessfully". By sucessful I mean it would show the correct version in the top right corner (when it wasn't saying I had an invalid or already in use CD Key). To fix the problem I had to reinstall the patch yet again. But this time I didn't have to do manual patch I let the wizard take care of it. It seems that the manual patch doesn't update everything properly but it takes care of the files that the wizard has trouble installing.


Short and sweet:

1. Fresh install
2. Download v1.03 patch
3. Follow the EA tech support directions for manual patch.
4. Run the wizard and install the patch over the manual patch
5. Play some BF2 (worked for me after just 5 hours of wasted gaming time)
