    Pirate I need help please...

Drunken Pirate, forgive me guys for starting a new thread but I posted in the "Official how well will my pc run bf2" thread, I do a search for it and its there but when I read through the thread to find if anyone replied its not there. Not sure how these forums work in that regard. So I had no where else to go with this, hope someone can help me out. Thx.

    Heres #1.

I have no anti-virus programs period on this machine and I never run anything in thew backgroud but once in a blue moon TSeamspeak. I went start-run-meconfig and turned all off, not even the lil speaker icon in the bottom right corner.

Hey all, just registered here but been reading for awhile. I'm hopeing this is the right thread and someone with some technical expertise can help.

I had a Falcon Northwest Mach V which I exclusively played Mechwarrior on for years but it became outdated and wont play BF2 so friends persuaded me to build my own. I thought I had "enough" with this new machine to at least play on high and use some of the new cool features such as AA, Dynamic Lighting and Shadows but sadly I can only play smooth, stutter free at medium settings with AA, Lighting and Shadows off

    Specs:
    Lian-Li ATX case
    Coolermaster 450W RS-450-ACLX psu
    Asus A8V-E deluxe 939
    AMD 64 3500+ Athlon 64 Venice Core
    VGA XFX 6800GT 256mb
2 gigs of CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory (got 2 gigs now).
    Sony 1.44
    Toshiba DVD-Rom
    Toshiba DVD-RW
    Creative Labs SB Audigy 2
WD 80gb Sata drive 7200 rpm

I've seen other posters here with equal or lesser specs and can play on high with those features enabled but I cant. Can anyone here tell me why or is there something I dont know about. I'm not an idiot but I'm not even close to being pc savvy, its a miracle I even put this thing together :) P.S. Nothing is overclocked cause me dont know how anyway :)

    Thx, Joe

P.S. If this is best I can do, can you please suggest a resolution that is best for me and the other settings as well. I'm currently at 1224X768@60htz, Custon, Terrain, Effects, Geometry, Texture and Lighting at HIGH. I have Dynamic Light and Dynamic Shadows at Low and AA to Off. Texture filtering at medium with distance scale 100%. I also want to add that I read a thread about antriscopic something and went to my Nvidia panel and enabled that, (turned it on). So if thats bad let me know please.

Thanks so much in advance, Joe

Re: Pirate I need help please...

There is a PM system on these boards for a reason.

The specs don't mean much, the game runs different from machine to machine. If someone had the EXACT same motherboard with the exact same bios, the exact same memory with the exact same revision numbers, and the exact same processor in the exact same batch, and the exact same video card with the exact same bios, then I would be concerned.

Also 1GB of RAM maybe alright but 1.5-2.0 is great. I had 1GB went to 2GB and wow, although I'm running Intel not AMD.

Make sure you have your chipset drivers for you mobo installed and updated as well as graphics, sound, and NIC drivers.

Not sure why you couldn't find your other post, it was 2 posts above the second one you made http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showt...651#post493651

Perhaps someone will know what all that stuff means. I unfortunately am not one of them.

So let me get this right...

You want to know how THIS:

        Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2GHz
        Memory: 1022MB RAM
        Chip type: GeForce 6800 GT

        will run bf2?

        Are you crazy?

Re: Pirate I need help please...

Try clearing the My Documents\BF2\Mods\BF2\cache folder and use these settings: Terrain on high, the rest on medium except texture filtering on high and view distance 100%. For resolution try 1152x864 @ 85Hz. Or 1280x960 @ 75 or 85Hz.

No, not crazy Savigon I do run BF2 but I wanna know why some can run it at all high and with AA, Dyn Light and Shadows on and I cant, seems I shoud be able to, but thanks anyway. Seems you failed to read my posts through and through.

To those that were helpful Wasp, KoK and BL, I appreciate you taking time to answer and I will try those tips asap.

BTW I have 2 gigs of ram, not 1.

The thread by Drunken Pirate titled, Help us help you I went by. Hope he gets a chance to stop in and view it, thx guys.

Imo your Audigy Driver version is outdated. Your version is 5.12.0001.0522
I had to update my soundcard (Audigy 2 ZS) because of heavy stuttering in the game.
My version says 5.12.2.444 (date of the driver is 18.10.2004)
I'd recommend to go to creative's homepage, and to do the autoupdate. Install the newest drivers, and EAX console etc. Then restart and see if this helps.

Also make sure that none of your processors, CPU, GPU, Chipset get too warm. Make sure you have sufficient airflow in your case, and I'd also recommend an aftermarket cooler for your 6800gt. Got the same card and it used to get very hot, keeping me from playing at good framerates. Solved the problem with water

              //edit
ups I see you have an usb soundcard... sell it then buy an audigy 2 zs... or something better. You should definately get a PCI soundcard.
Can't set sound to "hardware" with USB hardware. Only software emulation which uses more CPU cycles afaik.

Re: Pirate I need help please...

I have a program called Asus Probe, got curious and checked it out. Gives me some kind of info about all the components, temps etc...

I went to processor and it says this: External clock 200mhz, Max spee 3700mhz, Current speed 2200mhz. Is that good?

Went to memory and it says: physical memory usage 15%, with 3 lil green bar thingys. Then under that it says: Total 2095536 K and under that says: Free 1097808 K

Then went to Monitoring. There it says.
                    CPU temp. 37C/91F OK
                    Mobo temp. 34C/93F OK
CPU Fan 2616 Fan below threshold!! (and blinks off and on.)
Chipset Fan 0 Fan below threshold!! (blinking on and off.)
Chassis Fan 0 Fan below threshold!! (blinking on and off.)
                    +12V 12,302 OK
                    +5V 5.12 OK
                    +3.3V 3.344 OK
                    VCore 1.216 OK

                    Does this help?

I'm just wondering why I cant run BF2 at high. Seems to me I should be able to, most posters with similar machine specs can. When I do turn things up I get stutter so bad its unplayable. Well and all the errors and lockups lately too.

P.S. AlphaNut=It never runs hot, these numbers were taken after the pc had been on for hours and playing hard. I will check into and update the soundcard drivers though, thanks for your concern I really appreciate it. BTW I have a huge 120 fan in front, 1 80 I mounted at and out of the top of the case, has a 120 fan built into the PSU, and behind that is 2 80s to cool out the back panel etc...

Good one Kripp, I guess ya got me there :P

UPDATE: WASP, I checked those cache folders I got 7 total in there, one has just one thing in it, the other 6 have a bunch of icon thingys in there. Do I delete the folders OR just delete the icon thingys in the folders?

ALPHANUT: I went to creative and updated my EAX console and got the latest drivers, thanks so much for the info. I do have an older monitor, Viewsonic A90 19" Max Reso is 1600x1200, I didnt think to look for that info thanks man. I dont know what hertz I should select though. What would you suggest my resolution be set at in BF2? My Sb Value is an agp or so I thought. Its below my vidcard by two slots for space between, good air flow. And I do have it set to Hardware in game settings. I hear bird wings flap, crickets, mosquitos, flies, etc... But I should get a PCI?

Update: I deleted those 7 folders anyway. Not played the game yet. I did check my vid card heat thou. Said GPU core at 56c and Ambient temp. at 42c, that good or bad?

You aren't running antivirus? are you crazy?
That may even be the cause of your problems, crud running the background you don't even know about. go google Avast4 and dl it.
With Avast and Zonealarm running I can play with an aging XP3000 and 6800GT smoothly with everything on high except dynamic shadows.

I will note that the difference between mine and your system though is that I run with 2GB memory, that made a big diff for me.

Re: Pirate I need help please...

Ok DP I'll check it out and get at asap.

I DO have 2 gigs of exact memory on board now. I bought one gig but in two weeks after I bought another and it helped greatly to improve performance.

Reading over what I've posted as far as info for ya though, does anything raise a red flag to you other than the Intivirus??

UPDATE: I got the avast4 up and running. thx, Joe
