    HELI Camera Missle Control

I consider myself a good pilot, yet, I suck with the missle...

Can someone give me tips of how to control it ?

lets say there is the camera view, i see a tank...

There is a cursor that can move from around the square
the direction I click to fire will be the direction that the missle will go to right ?

then to make it turn, do I hold down on the click and move direction
or let go after fire, then click in another direction I want it to go to ??

I think I should hop in some empty server park my choper and practice my control over it

Please someone, let me know about my question in bold

Just get a good gunner. It's not supposed to be where you can switch to the gunner seat on the fly. Thats why the helo goes all wacky when your not in the pilot seat. Besides, spam missles are more than enough to take out tanks.

Well good gunners come and go...

yesterday I played in a server...
some dude would always jump in the chopper and WAIT...
      just wait for a pilot

the entire map... and he would wait and wait just sitting there in the gunner's seat... or maybe he was rolling something, then smoked something and knew he needed time

The reason I made this thread is I want to improve my gunner in case I hop in a chopper with a good pilot

Well, I notice that You don't have to hold down the button when making it move around, just move the cursor. I still am having trouble hitting mobile tanks though, that missle moves pretty gosh darn fast.

You're both wrong about controlling the missle. You click once to fire at the desired target. Any click (that means press + release the button!) after that will change the trajectory of the missle to the point you clicked. Simply moving the cursor, or clicking and holding down won't change the missle's direction at all.

The trick with the TV missles is to be patient. It sometimes takes a slight wobble right after its launched, so don't correct until it's already a good distance away from launch. Otherwise you'll overcorrect.

            Re: HELI Camera Missle Control

Whenever I play with my clanmates, I'm usually a dedicated attack helo pilot if the chance permits. Here is how I work with my teammates:

            As the pilot -
You control the speed, altitude, and attitude (orientation) of the craft. You also have control of the helo's dumbfire rockets and flares. Any failure in the helo's effectiveness rests 80% on you.

Your first task as the pilot is to gain a bit of altitude, but only so that you can convert that potential energy into kinetic energy in the form of moving foward by dipping back down. You are to keep moving unless you find targets of opportunity for your gunner's TV-guided missiles. With lots of practice, you can weave in and out of treelines, between smokestacks, and even into steep canyons. This is most critical for not only evading lockons and enemy fire, but it also gives you the element of surprise.

As the rocket-firing pilot, you are to make strafing runs on enemy armor. Forget trying to splash enemy troops with rockets--it's inefficient and requires you to sometimes reduce speed. Let your gunner take them out with his turret cannon.

            As the forward gunner -
You are at the mercy of your pilot's flying. But if you work as a team, especially by taking advantage of any kind of VOIP, you are an effective killing machine. You are to keep your turret constantly scanning for targets of opportunity. Just because you see a target, doesn't mean you should start opening fire. That will give away your position and sometimes give the enemy the opportunity to seek cover or find defenses. If your pilot can line you up on enemy foot soldiers, use your turret cannon to mop them up.

Now, if you find enemy armor or a turret target of opportunity, your pilot should line you up for the TV-guided missiles. Here is how to use them:

            1. Right click to switch to the missiles. Your camera view will switch to the seeker camera display. You can't move the view as the camera is somehow fixed to the head of the chopper. This is why you are at the mercy of your pilot to line you up.

            2. Once you see a target anywhere in your camera, you have a better chance of hitting it if it isn't moving much or if it's at least not moving toward you. If you are too close to the target, it is moving toward you, and it's about to dip below the camera's angle, don't bother firing. Your missile cannot readjust it's flight path fast enough to kill it.

            3. All you have to do is put the crosshairs on the target and click. To adjust the flight path of the missile, just move the mouse over the new flight path and click. The missile will fly toward the center of the crosshairs where ever you have it pointed.

              3. All you have to do is put the crosshairs on the target and click once. That's it. To adjust the flight path of the missile, just move the mouse. You do not, repeat, DO NOT have to click again or hold down the mouse button. The missile will fly toward the center of the crosshairs where ever you have it pointed.
Wrong, I have practiced all the ways people have said you controll the missle on my own server. If you want to correct the missle in flight you move your cursor to where you want it to go and click, and if you want to correct it again repeat. So do not hold the left mouse button and do not move it without clicking.

Yeah the way grey fox described it is the way it works. Although it is different in single player now, god knows why they changed it for single player and not multiplayer. But in single player now you click once and it will mark the spot where you clicked and then you have to click again to fire the missile.

Well, I'm recollecting from my playing months ago, and I'm sure my memory is a bit hazy. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Post edited. :)

                      Re: HELI Camera Missle Control

as mentioned there are 2 ways to adjust the missle...

                      1. Click once AND HOLD - just like a SRAW/Eryx, but you have to hold it and are limited in the amount of movement you have.

                      2. Click once, re-position and click again to move it, this is by FAR the most effective way to use the TV missle. I've seen good gunners bend missles around mountains on Clean Sweep and chase jets with them.

Be patient with the re-clicking, but do take note that the missle is traveling at a high rate of speed. If the target is one moving in a linear fashion (a BH that doesnt see you), you can 'lead' the target and fire a bit ahead of it -- i've been able to do this to helos and not have to re-click on many occasions.

The missle is a 1 shot kill, but has no real spalsh damage, therefore ground targets will need to be HIT by it, even if you're 1' off from a tank you'll kick up mad dirt and get no kills.

                        FALSE

You can only steer by resignating the target - IE clicking again. Wherever you click - you are designating that pt as the target and it will go to that pt.

I never do that, but could have sworn I've spoken with guys in TS that steered missles this way... my bad....

you do not hold the button down. Every two seconds or so you can re-click to guide the missile.

The trick is to make sure you don't over compensate. I used to hammer the button over and over again in an attempt to guide the rocket to it's target. All that does is force you to over-shoot the target. Each time you click you re-guide the missle so it will strike pretty much dead on where you selected.. ie it's not a gradual process like with an AT round. Wait until the missile is at a decent range in relation to the target then make a final single re-adjustment by clicking either on the target for stationary objects, or where you think the target will be at impact for moving ones. Then just watch the carnage.

what i do if the target is far away (150m or so) i just click on the target over and over, but slowly. once the target gets closer i start clicking on the target but this time faster. you have to remember this whole process lasts about 4-5 sec. for a semi-long distance. and i click maybe 15 times throughout it. i dont know. some people would say that is too much, but i never over compensate. i almost always hit the target too.
