Servers will be able to run both expansion pack and original maps

A regular to our server sent Dice an email asking if servers will be able run both sets of maps :
"You will be able to run mixed servers, but if a player joins a mixed server without owning the expansion pack, they will be told that they do not own all of the maps and may be kicked from the server once a map they do not own comes up in the rotation."
This is a great move by EA/ Dice and it will help prevent splitting an already fragile community in two! :)

That's odd because a recent interview with DICE over at wolfgaming said they wouldn't be doing that.

It was actually the first question:

1. Will current Ranked BF2 servers be able to run BF2 maps and Special Forces maps at the same time? For example:
Map Rotation:
-BF2 Map
-BF2 Map
-BF2 SF Map
-BF2 Map
-BF2 Map
-BF2 SF Map
.....

For the time being, ranked servers will run either BF2 or Special Forces maps. No mixed map/mod support will not be available in this release. Possibly part of a future release/patch.

I agree, that sounds nice. But I have a feeling they will break that promise.

No, it'll just force everyone to buy their (judging by their record with The Sims) numerous expansion packs with extra content of spurious value or you'll be periodically kicked from every game you join.

You will be able to join the server if you have the expasion pack and the expasion server will be able to play both the expansion maps or the bf2 maps thats the way it was on BF1942 there was no mixing between them, as if they mixed them it would probbaly cause an error if a map on the expansion pack was used when some people didn't have it meaning you might just find when you go to the new map that half the people have been disconnected due to the fact they haven't brought hte expansion pack.

And the reason they haven't brought the expasion pack is that it is clearly going to be crap.
