Another fixed AA rant (with a plea for help)

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but I have to vent.

Now I've never shot a real anti aircraft missle, but I have to think they are more affective in real life than they are in BF2.

I was playing USMC on sharqi peninsula and was manning the AA site in front of the TV tower. I had the enemy attack chopper locked on, waited for the flares to clear, re-locked onto the chopper, which by this time was nearly directly over me, fired the two missles which convieniently went right by the chopper on either side and then the gunner killed me.

Is it supposed to be like this? What am I doing wrong? Do I need to have more space between me and the target for the missles to have time to change direction? How does one do that anyway, by the time the flares clear, the chopper is too close.

I've had more luck shooting down choppers with the anti tank missles than with the anti aircraft missles.

Anyway, thanks for listening, I feel better now.

its more effective to throw stones at jets at least you have a better chance of hitting them

the only thing that workes maybe 5 out of 100 times is to shoot ur missiles when the jet/chopper is coming straight to your position.
the bad thing with it is, if u hit hin, u're dead a few secconds later ... xD

in that case you're better off in the back of a jeep manning the 50 cal. Just be glad the Cobra wasn't near by. I guarantee the missiles would have found their mark on the friendly.

I've never took a Jet down with the AA, But I light Helos up all the time with the AA. ALl u gotta do is lock onto em, wait for em to drop thier flares and smoke em.

One time on Wake Island, I was locked onto the enemy chopper that was almost on the other side of the island and I fired off 2 missles. The chopper disapeard because of my video distance setting so I couldn't tell if I hit it or not. Then about 2 seconds later I got 2 "Punished for Teamkill" messages. Apparently my missles hit the friendly chopper that was even further away than the hostile chopper and was out of visual range the entire time.

lets just say this. With the invention of the portible Stinger missile, large attack choppers became death traps. you only needed one missile, and they rarely missed. I mentioned this on another thread, but back when the russians invaded Afganistan, and we as brilliant Americans decided to give the rebels there stinger missiles (yea how bright of us...stupid government....)..anyway...the Hind attack chopper, which i just love because its russian, its an attack chopper, and it can carry a small number of troops, making it very cool...but the stinger made those things death traps. The pilots didn't want to fly them, and made repeated attempts to transfer, or even refused to fly and you all know what would happen to you if you refused anything in the soviet union...they were that bad! So...yes in this game I can understand the AA not being perfect...but for those times when its so close you could spit on the chopper...come on.

One tactic i have just started doing is 1) screw the AA, unless that chopper is flying away from me, its just a death trap. 2) if I am an AT soldier, and the chopper is hovering or i can see the cockpit, I fire a missile into where the pilot is. why? Because that missile can penitrate the glass, and will kill the pilot. Whats best is if the gunner doesnt realize this and the thing crashes, you get another kill :p

doesn't it take a few at rounds to down a chopper? even if you hit the front where the pilot is?

i have tried what you indicated and the pilot never buys it...they seem to get away before i can get another round off...

I didn't know this, I'll have to try it. I need to make a list of things to try. I read about sticking C4 to the top of the flag pole to prevent chopper caps

I've taken out 4 chopper pilots with the M95 unlocked sniper rifle, and it always takes at least 2 shots. Best bet is to get him once as soon as he jumps in the chopper, then you have time to reload and fire again just before he can take off.

I was playing USMC on Sharqui the other day on top of the building next to the TV station. The enemy chopper was just hovering near the roof of the TV station, took 6-8 shots but I eventually got him, and the gunner when it crashed. A minute later the same guy shows up in the chopper, same place, I get off one shot then he flies around to the other side of the TV station to hide from me! If he hadn't been so fixated on the roof of the TV station I would have been toast.

well i guess its time for EA and DICE to fix the AA..... They said they were fixing it in 1.03...but alas...they didnt. I havent noticed on bit of improvement, so not sure what they were testing.
They should make the AA hit FIRST STRIKE, FIRST LOCK. TO combat this a bit for the pilots sake is maybe shorten the range in which it can lock on.
However, lets be real.......a copter hooveriing over a flag........ or a plane lazily flying in directly to a flag to cluster bomb it........a flag that has AA..i mean that should be suicide for the pilot. Seriously. As it is now. Its not. And thats just wrong. Put some more tactic into the game, and fix the damn AA!!

If the Helo is too close you your missles cannot get the right flight path to the Helo. They are supposed to be heat seakers but they should be called Friendly Fire Seakers instead. If the damn things are "LOCKED ON" to a target then it should be just that. Not "WELL MAYBE they are locked on just as long as a Friendly aircraft is not Airborne at the time you fire the missles"

There are a few issues with this game that is really starting to turn me off from wanting to play it. Great game but between crappy AA, BUNNY HOPPING GALORE, and a few other things that I am sure could have been easily address in a simple patch, but DICE is more interested in feeding us more of this with the SF Expansion....I am playing less and less.

Not even close to being humorous.
