HELP! Horrendously slow load time

I have a P4 2.8 with 1GB RAM (sometimes two, when I need it), an ATI X700 256, With upload speed at apx 350.

When I load BF2 online and connect to a server it loads the map fine, but when it says something like Joining server/Verifying client blah blah blah, it seems to take forever (about 4 minutes).

What could be causing this?

its that way for every1(almost, xept if u got a fast HD) .. specially wit ppl wit big HD's (so i've heard) try defragmenting ur HD, it'll help but u'll probably wont notice anyways...

mine was like that but now it loads fast, i only have a pc1-e x300 graphics card 512 ram too, it maybe was my bandiwth increase 2mb to 4mb or maybe the new patch??? i'm not sure but i had this problem now i dont and thats the only things i changed

if you have a firewall or anti-virus on, try closing them first. that is exit the progs instead of disabling cuz disabling sometimes doesn't always work.

Its more than likely your hard drive. The faster the better really, though your computer is only as fast as the slowest piece of hardware you own, some of the time. I just went to a RAID 0 configuration and the load times are now real quick, takes 20 secs to verify... (WD Raptor Sata's)

i would say more ram but u alrdy have 1 gb, i went from 1 to 2 and my load times r so fast its not even funny, i ony see the client data **** for around 3-5 seconds

How fast HD should you have? I have a Seagate Barracuda 200gb 7200rpm, is that enough?

that harddrive is fine, what anti virus do u us? I swapped my Norton for blueyonders own that was something else ive done thats sped it up but i cant gurantee that whats made it load quicker, just try loading it with ur security off see if speed it up
