Can anyone give feedback on which maps are most commonly used in Scimmages and matches? Are city maps more common than other maps?

Who decides what maps are used and what the other rules are (vehicles/no vehicles, team size, etc....) on match play?

Thanks in advance for answering my noobish question. Just haven't had a lot of exp. in match play.

City Maps are by far the most commonly used in general.

I have never belonged to a clan or anything nor have I participated in any organized BF2 matches.

But when I scan servers and see matches going on, it always seems to be City Maps..specifically Strike at Karkand

It all depends on where you play. Often you play 2 maps and each clan can choose one of them.

Here are the rules from enemydown.co.uk but they could be much different on other ladders.

Battlefield 2 (2) Teams


2.1 The challenging clan decides which side to play first. Clans will swap sides at half time.

2.2 Minimum players - For 16 player maps the minimum team size is 6 players and for 32 player maps the minimum is 10.

2.3 Maximum players - For 16 player maps the maximum is 8 players and for 32 player maps the maximum is 16.

Battlefield 2 (3) Server Settings

3.1 The default length of a match is 2x20 mins per map. Clans may select an alternative time from the challenge menu.


Battlefield 2 (5) Substitutions

5.1 Substituting players during match is allowed, as long as they are all fully registered and no extra players are playing at any time.


Battlefield 2 (6) Punkbuster

6.1 Punkbuster MUST be enabled on all match servers.

Battlefield 2 (7) Options

7.1 Unlockable Weapons - By default unlockable weapons ARE allowed in matches unless specifically restricted in the match notes.

7.2 Commander - By default Commander postion IS allowed unless specifically restricted in the match notes.

what kind of match play do you mean, like ladders? the only ones i ever played in included all the ranked maps...

Which maps are the best to practice on? I'm sure all are available to use, but I'm sure some are more prevalent than others.

Just trying to figure out which to focus on.

I see Sharqi Peninsula as a VERY common choice for clan scrims/matches. If they chose Kubra, it's a dead giveaway that they have a good pilot they can't wait to pull out on you.

Dalian Plant is pretty common too, but used more by clans that have good pilots for both helicopters (there are 4 in the map), as well as planes.
