BF2 crashes my PC

OK. when I try and join a server, the loading bar gets to about 1/4 full and my computer crashes(full on restart). I really dont get it. I just did a fresh install of XP and BF2 and fixed it up with all the new drivers and patches, it still crashes.

any ideas?

my specs are:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
Radeon 9600SE
1GB RAM
VIA KT600(chipset)
win xp pro sp2

u need a better system... especially the processor, ur ram is good though, vid card is kinda old... get a ati x600, theyre cheap, only about 100 usd

I agree I need a new PC, I'm working on it(AMD 64 4000+, 2GB RAM, 7800 GTX SLI)

And yes I have played BF2 a lot before the reinstall. I can only play at low everything(i use full view distance).

Try posting your dxdiag info as explained in the Help Us, Help YOU! sticky at top of forum.

Did you remember to install latest chipset drivers, not jsut the ones of the install CD??

Alright. I'll post my dxdiag shortly. I have updated my chipset, sound, and networking drivers from the motherboard support site.

So the REINSTALL is what started the problem?

correct. i reinstalled XP on a formatted partition and then installed all my programs. I used to be able to play BF2 fine up untill about 2 weeks before the format.(thats why I did it)

NOTE: i have tried updating punkbuster already.

So the problem happened BEFORE you formatted and re-installed...

And the problem has been the same both before and after the re-format? i.e. the reformat and re-install did not help or affect the problem in any way?

before: BF2 would crash me to the desktop. after: it crashes my whole computer

Have you manually updated punkbuster yet?

Have you tried either:

hosting your own server and starting it up

or

playing on a non-punkbuster server

I've just tried launching and joining my own server, playing on an unranked server, playing on a non-PB server and one that was unranked and non-PB. they all crashed. after i recovered my system, error reporting showed up, I reported the error and a MS page came up saying "We do not have a solution for your problem". Now I'm getting aggrivated.

after the last BF2 loadup and crash I noticed that it crashed when loading sounds(or in the very beginning of whatever comes after sounds). And this time MS said it was a driver error.
