Bumping from a 2.0g to a 3.0......going on a Intel 865 GBF mobo...
Intel Pentium 4 3.0E Prescott 800MHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache Socket 478 Processor

I Want to overclock, so I also purchased a

Yes you can overclock. BF2 in general is not overclock friendly.

I run my 3.0 @ 3.2, it could probably go higher but I've never really bothered trying. I need GFX power, not CPU power.

Hate to tell ya but that if that is a Intel made motherboard you arent going to be able to overclock at all. Intel does not support overclocking in the least. You can run a motherboard that has a Intel chipset and overclocking it, but not a actually made by Intel motherboard. They dont have the options in the bios to do much of any kind of tweaking. Go with a Asus or i prefer ABIT for Intel.

Yes it is. If your overclock is 100% stable BF@ willnot have any problems with it.

I just bought a 3.0g chip, another gig of Corsair ram, and a new heatsink...

It will get me buy for a year or so...
Then it is ALL AMD... anyhow

Yes it is. If your overclock is 100% stable BF@ willnot have any problems with it.

I second that, took me a good month to "stabilize" my comp. I can over-clock more, but it's already fast and BF2 seems to crash. Sometimes right away and sometimes day's go by. I'm very happy where its at now, low heat and fairly fast.

Don't stress, your comp. will be fast. For another hundred, you get a good overclocker, keep your eyes open on newegg.

Prescotts are not the core you want if you want to OC. Get a Northwood or Alderthingy. Either of those are good. I have a Prescott and yah.....can't OC it much because of how hot it runs. Recently I flashed my mobo's BIOs, it seems to be running cooler now.

Idle : 38*C (20.5*C ambeint room, 23*C ambeint case)


I haven't tested it on load. I have a Freezer7 hooked onto that thing. But thats according to thermal diodes on the motherboard and we all know they can be quarky sometimes. But I trust the temperatures are aroiund that.

How is Bf2 overclock friendly? If I overclock my videocard, X800XL, by the slightest amount BF2 chokes on it while every other game and application I have has no problem with it.

Than your card has problems. I have my card overclocked to hell and don't have any problems with BF2.
