well, i decided to try the latest patch to see if it would fix the problem. The first patch didn't, the second patch didn't and surprise surprise, the third patch didn't. I even emailed them and they gave me the usual "scan for spyware, viruses etc".
This is a joke, I spent £30 on this game on release date, couldn't play on Punkbuster servers because the game kept crashing (complete lockup, have to restart the computer). People here said I should wait for the first patch to fix it, that didn't. i have kept my punkbuster up to date and every single update for PB does absolutely nothing for me.

I need some comforting words

Well..my friend was having the punkbuster lock-up issue and he's playing fine now...all he did was update punkbuster manually a couple of days ago.

My game is crashing like a beast now too. Every 20-30 minutes it exits out and goes to desktop. This is quite frusterating...

I'm having the same problem - although every week or so I might be able to play for an hour or two without problems. Started for me back around Halloween, where previously it had run for months without a single problem. Punkbuster = Gamebuster - it only happens on punkbuster servers, and i've even manually updated my Punkbuster files, and done a full reformat of windowsXP, and reinstall of BF2/SF.

I've found that if I use the pb_sleep 500 command every few minutes, it doesn't crash. But if I forget to use this command, it hard locks my PC. I've also tried the cl_maxpackets and pb_system commands, but neither seems to do much.

it's very annoying, I don't think im going to be getting the expansion pack as that will be another £20 down the drain, I have never been able to play BF2 though

I raised a ticket with Punkbuster, who gave me the following information: "Please get the updated chipset drivers for your nForce4 board from http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_winxp32_amd_6.70.html.

These will fix the issue.

(Please remove installed nForce drivers first. Installing over an existing set of drivers could cause problems.)

Please let me know if you need more help, thanks."

Even though I already had these drivers installed, after reinstalling I was able to play for approximately 45 minutes without a single crash. Will test more extensively tonight.

You have a router?
can you play in a PB server for a little bit before it kicks you?
Is your routers firmware faulty? If so, did you try directly connecting it into your modem?

I had this problem before.. it was my router.. faulty firmware.. i had to get a new router and i was good to go.. (like i would load, but i wouldnt be able to respawn and then pb kicks me..)
