Ok, I just turned it down to 2.37Ghz at a 215HTT and its better now. I bet its the relatively low 1.45v limit for the current bios. Oh well, I'll live with the slightly slower PC for a while. Weird thing is it still idles at ~31-32 according to speedfan, and under load has never ever gotten above 40*C even on a Prime95 2 hours torture test.

1st off its not the Chipset, others have overclocked successfully.

I am gonna clean out the video drivers too...


My Bios has the timings on Auto... might be an issue? I forgot what the individual timings are called. Can you type them out and give me a safe timing set?

If you set your BIOS to manual on the memory it should show the correct timings. Otherwise you should be able to read it off the label on the side of one of the memory sticks. I checked a norwegian webshop but they only had the PQI Turbochannel memory which had very low timings. I need the exact name of your memory sticks to find the proper timings.

Did you change the graphic settings when you installed the 6800GT and what are they now? In my experience (I have both a 6800 Ultra and an ATI X800XT) neither of those cards are fast enough to give enough FPS in all situations if you run all on high.

I read somewhere that a newer BIOS is available with some more voltage options. Have you checked? And yea 1.45V is very limited. I had to use 1.525V to get my 3000+ to 2.52Ghz.

Its the cheapo stuff. I'll look at the timings on the sticks if I have to. For now 2.37ghz seems to be pretty stable. Until I go buy a few diskettes that aren't messed up and can install the 1.30 Bios I'll just deal with the lower clock speed and limited voltage.

PS: The interesting thing is Prime95 didn't show any problems and the load temps were way lower than my old Prescott P4 at Idle on an aftermarket cooler.

Here is how I do it. I burn the BIOS files on a CD. Then I boot the computer on a Windows 98 CD. I choose to boot the computer with CD-ROM support. Then I swap CD's and flash the BIOS. I haven't tried it with the XP CD but you can always try to exit installation and see if you still have CD-ROM support.

Could it be that something else is affected by your overclock like the speed of the PCI express bus? I'm not too familiar with PCI express but I know some BIOS's have a speed setting for the PCI-E.

The PCI-e speed goes from 100 to 109 at a 215HTT setting. I tried changing both and it didn't help.

Last night after I thought everything was straightened out Farcry wouldn't load up, the into screen just flickered and froze. And BF2 still has a grey screen.
