Re: *** Anyone else have this problem? ***
It does indeed look like you've managed to fill your RAM there.
However, if there is a leak it's not very large. I'm very cramped for RAM and haven't had issues nearly that bad.
You might want to try a few things.
A) make sure you've got a minimum of backgroud processes running. crtl-alt-delete and see what's being run under your user account name.
B) try turning down the sound quality. The lower the quality, the fewer sounds it will load into RAM.
C) try using English only Voice Overs. This automaticly uses half the resources for the VO.
D) Twiddle with video settings. Higher settings stress your system RAM as well as your video-card.
Hope this helps a bit.

Whoop. I didn't look at your specs. Seems like you've got enough horse power to run with everything on. So ignore that part of my advice.
I'd still be leary about background stuff.
Windows auto-update causes a very simular effect when I forget to turn it off. Virus scanners and such can do the same. Even 2 gigs of RAM won't help if your system is doing other things while you are trying to play!

Re: *** Anyone else have this problem? ***
Oop... something else just occured to me.
Windows has a particularly strange issue with RAM management. It shouldn't be a problem, but sometimes it is anyway. The thing is, sometimes more RAM will slow down your preformance after a certain amount!
Doesn't make sence, does it?
The reason why is that everything in RAM is adressed. When you've got a huge amount of RAM, the adressing becomes complecated. It could be spending more time doing lookups than actually reading the RAM.
You can test this by removing one of your sticks and seeing if it runs better.

The exact same thing happens to me every now and again, but often times I have xfire, norton, steam, and my PVR running in the background. And I only have 1gb of ram.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 - I have few processes (under 25) and the ones that are under my name don't use much ram.
2 - My sound settings are at high, but hardware accelerated. I will see if turning them to medium helps.
3 - Been using english VO and it still does it. Even with non english VO it does iit.
4 - Turning all my settings to high did not affect it, and it doesn't matter what the settings are. All low and it still does it.
5 - This has happened when i only had 1 gb of ram and 2 gb has not stopped it. It only happens on laggy servers or rarely non-laggy servers.
6 - i have no windows update. I am still using the original SP1 and have not made a single update. Yes, i am using the original Windows xp and i refuse to update.
Truly, i never have this problem in ANY other FPS game. I think it is BF2's sh!tty coding because all my other games are very smooth and never have this. It might be the memory leak glitch too.

YIKES!!!Originally posted by SuperTyphooni have no windows update. I am still using the original SP1 and have not made a single update. Yes, i am using the original Windows xp and i refuse to update.
Update! Update NOW!
There's no reason not to update. There were some before, but further updates have taken care of those issues. SP2 plugs several major security issues!
It's really hard to say exactly what's going on there. In all likelyhood, it's a problem with your system. I know that sucks to hear, but it's probably the case. My computer has no right to run BF2 as well as it does, so I wouldn't call the code sh!ty.Truly, i never have this problem in ANY other FPS game. I think it is BF2's sh!tty coding because all my other games are very smooth and never have this.
Another thing you should check on, is that there sound.
Turn OFF hardware acelerration. Make sure EAX is also turned off. Then try it in High quality first, then Medium, then Low. Hopefully it will be fine before you hit the low level.
I've got a sound card that *should* be able to handle EAX and higher quality sounds, but I get the same lag-like effects if I try it.
The reported memory leak was ONLY for servers. That said, I wouldn't be suprised to find that there's some memory leakage somewhere. It's a very hard thing to prevent. It might be the memory leak glitch too.
There's no need to guess at this though. You can find out for sure very easily.
Alt-tab to Windows right after you start a game and hit Ctrl-alt-delete to bring up the task manager. Check to see how much RAM BF2 and related applets are using. Write it down! Play for awhile, then repeat the process.
Do this several times over a good long play session.
Now you can actually look and see if it's eating up more and more RAM.
Also remember that for it to be causing problems, it (and everything else that's running) has to use up ALL your system RAM.
With luck, you'll be able to nail your issue down this time around.

Re: *** Anyone else have this problem? ***
This has nothing to do with your processes. It's a bug in the game.
This occurs when you get hit by a round or are next to an explosion and the BF2 blurry-vision comes up. As soon as it comes up, the lag starts, until you respawn. Once you respawn, there is a delay of a few secs and you are playing as normal.
Oh, and as far as background processes, I always kill all processes (I use WinProcess instead.. much better) to make sure everything is clean. After that I only have explorer.exe running at around 13-15k and everything else below or around 1k
I've had this issue.
I think I found the solution to this. If you type "exit" in the console when you leave a game, this will happen. It's better to disconnection and quit, because BF2 seems have some shutdown routines to clear the memory and update some files. If you skip this process, it these things get left over and BF2 gets angry
