Sniping in Oman

Well I've had the game about a week, and tonight I thought I'd give sniping a try. The map was Gulf of Oman and I was playing USA. I started at the bottom right spawn, and started the advance to the Hotel with the rest of my squad, Sure enough, we all got picked up by the Hotel Roof brigade, so I thought I'd give counter sniping a whizz. I set up in our spawn on one of the walls, and took aim at the ladder; within 30 seconds I had my first victim, I took him out in two shots. Within the fall of the next 15 tickets, I had 6 more kills, but by now I had taken some hits from the hill to my right, I turned and saw my attacker laid out in the sun like a pile of camel ****. I dismounted my wall in seek of medical attention, turned back to the hill and started my hike. I found my prey roasting away and give him the good news with my pistol. At this point I put my claymores around his hide, and buggered off back to my base.

Meanwhile the mass of the US attack had all of the bases except the Hotel, and I started to get giddy at the sight of all those people running for the ladder. I took aim once again and by now I knew exaclty which rung to aim for for a headshot, and was peeling them off one by one. We soon proceeded to win the game 200 odd to Nil, and I got myself 2 awards and a Bronze Medal, as well as an impressive KDR yielding 36points.

I hope you enjoyed my story and the advice that it brings. We all know the hotel is a hive of sniper activity, so rather than put up with it or have your head taken off by a claymore - make the first move, and stem the flow at the start.

For MEC Forces it is best to snipe on the Hotel Roof, The Crane. For USA it is best to stay inside the bunkers and wait for MEC's to come and try and cap the flag.

i kinda like camping at next to the rail tracks as MEC/USMC (good targets all round)

my tactics are mostly, find a good spot, and stay there, high in a crane is a good choice, but once you got sniped off, dont go up there again.
the next is to snipe from a spot, and when you get seen, kill the guy. at that point you might want to move away from that spot and find a new place to hide. but leave a claymore hidden in some bushes near your original sniping spot. so he probably wants to come for you as soon as he spawns, but all he will find will be your claymore. 2 kills for the price of 1.
but camping usually doesnt work for me. i always try to find that better spot, move around, get a kill, find your next target, move to get a good aim and on to the next.

You and everyone else. WHATEVER you do don't climb the crane...any crane for that matter. It's the first place we look for noobs.

My advice snipe from the ground...it's the last place people look for a sniper.

Shoot...Move...shoot and move.

I always check the crane for easy targets when I play Oman.

I agree with nodhere most new players find a good spot and stay there when sniping. I usually move around a lot. A good rule to follow, for a new player is to get two kills and move or empty one clip which ever comes first. You dont have to go far. Try and stay in the shadows or any place that will conceal your profile, dont move around looking left and right a lot. If you are perfectly still some people will actually walk right by you. Ive had people walk within 2 meters (estimated) of me and not see me.

Another good tatic is to go and use the "noob" sniping spots until you are killed then pick another spot in direct line to your target but closer. So that when they take fire from you (remember the fire direction indicator) they will look for you at the old spot and it will make it harder for you to be found.

One of my favorite tricks is to move (crawl dont jump and run) after 2 or 3 shots. When you get discovered and they are chaseing you try and run around or over an object drop a claymore and since they are chaseing you its an easy kill.

The most important things to remember when sniping are that one you are gonna get killed probably by another sniper. Two your tactics are more important than the spot you pick to hide. Using your first life to set up the rest of the game is not a bad Idea. Three and most important playing sniper is fun but if all you seem to be seeing is armor (you should at least spot everything you see) maybe being a sniper on this map is a bad Idea switch to another kit. I sometimes play as many as 4 different kits in one game. hope this helps...Red

If you're in an area where you think you'll get spotted (it happens sometimes, you'll get cornered) after taking a few shots try this: Instead of crawling up to look over a hill or over the edge of a building, crouch to look over obsticles. Your accuracy won't be as great, but you can still hit the torso pretty reliably. After every shot, go prone so that you duck down below the ridge. I've kept this up for ten minutes picking guys off left and right before they ever found out where I was, and even then they couldn't get me after I dropped some claymores and ran for the hills.

I prefer to use the bunker and pick off the straglers. On 64 i move to the hill about half way through and slowly make my way around the hotel. I usually do quite well. :)

My favourite spot in Oman is underneath the trains. It's great just lying on the track for a while. The sniper kit is very nice though, I really like using the claymores. It's so easy to evade your enemy also using this kit, because of the claymores. Turn the corner, slap a claymore down and as the enemy turns the corner he's blown up a few feet into the air. Awesome.

If you like artillary on your head the hotel roof is the place to be, otherwise a good sniping position for oman is on the other side of the swimming pool facing the hotel left hand side of a large grass mound.
Guaranteed you will get a.an enemy sniper stick his fat head over the top of the hotel roof and b.some hero will come along and lie nicely at the base
of the flag for you.Drop a couple of claymores in the grass over towards the train tracks 40mtrs or so just incase you are spotted and are tried to be flanked.:p

cant tell u where exactly...but my fav place is in the lil village of buildings nad if u hide in front of the wall...its perfect for US camo cuz mec somehows caps the beach fast

Improvise, relocate and be patient..

Dont go to any of the places listed here, matter of fact, dont go to any place where you have seen another sniper..

-High spots will kill you
Now from the other posts we have assorted the "complete moron/folks that like lead"-spots. Now its the hills we need to sort off, if any hill has a goosebump, people with shoot at it.

-Be the coward
Now its time to take favor of the previous paragraph, if you can place yourself near some growth that could look like a sniper, not too close though, but if this plant if more obvious than you, it will draw their attention away from you while you run away from the spot. Allways run away though, them soldiers might look stupid, and might be it, but why take the chance?

Allso use claymores to your advantadge, there is a few basic steps:
- If you should ever use a ladder, and want to be safe, NEVER place the claymore at the bottom of the ladder. Nor place it right infront of the climbers face, but out to the side, pointing towards the ladder.

- People think you are an easy kill, prove them wrong, and place that claymore just around the corner/hill you obviously ran around/over (You can allso use a knife for this if your cold blooded, remember to lay down, and a tad back, if he sees the knife, he'll be alert. I myself reccomend the use of corners for the knifers.)

- Improvise, you will be surprized of all the stuff a claymore can be used for.

- NEVER PLACE ONE AT CONTROLPOINTS!!! This will come back to haunt you if you do, some teammate WILL have his 3D map off and will try to lick it.

- So, where do I snipe then?

Well at the end of streets with happily unknowing charlies, just generally low with great, but not too great, visibility
