How hot should my video card get?

I'm overclocking my ATI 9800 Pro 256 and I'm wondering what's the hottest I should let it get before it could get damaged. Right now it's getting up to 71 Celsius.

my BFG 7800 GTX(OC) gets up to 73 degrees under load with FEAR, BF2 and stuff. It has a lifetime warranty so Im not worried about it. 71 doesn't seem that bad.....my old 6800GT (before the NV5 Cooler) would get up to 83 degrees under load at stock speeds. Granted, you are overclocking and the cooler the better to avoid problems. Have you looked into after market cooling?

After I put the NV5 cooler on my 6800GT, it went from 83 to arounf 60-63 under load and idle went from 60 something to mid 40's

The ATI Silencers are crap. I have one on my X850XT PE and it didn't do anything.

if you OC a vid card, you may take 80 degrees stressed as an absolute maximum , but rather stay lower.

Get yourself an zalman 700cu vid card cooler, had one like that on my previous x800pro, they don't only look cool but keep the stuff cool, the card went from stressed 68 degrees to stressed 50degrees

I will probably get the Zalman 700 Fatal1ty series. Great reviews thus far. And since my ATI Silencer isn't working worth a ****, I might as well try something else.

Really? wow sucks, i got one on my x850pro and one on my x850xt pe. They pretty much run the same temp (full load-core- 52c-56c) But the xt pe gives more mem heat, i can feel it on the ceramic.

With a decent cooler you should be around 50 - 55 C as optimum. How can you say the ATI silencer doesnt work? It brought my cards temp. down from 65+ to 50 - 55 C. That is a rather impressive temperature reduction.

Um he said his card was 71 celsius thats about 160 farienhiet... but I could be wrong

71 WOW, maximum mine goes to 45 c. i recomend u use ATI Tool to increse fan controll or find another cooling solution. or dont over clock at all

i recomend stay away from arctic cooling, cant compare to the Zelman Fans. Zelman is knows for its quality fans

Thats thermal pastes hes talking about. i tried it on my cpu and it helps alot.
