No. Just start with 1.03.

Make sure that you have about 2Gb of free space on the same drive where Windows is installed and that you're installing BF3 with the same XP account that you used to install the original game.

this is what i hate about getting a game a few months after it is released. i have the same problem with 1942, i cant get online for the life of me cos i dont know what patches i have to install etc.

You do NOT need the previous patches. Install game > 1.03 > go.

Just reinstalled last week. Fresh install right to 1.03. No problems at all.
