Thanks for trying to help mate but at the minute I´ve got some real life things to do. If these things help then great but I am not holding out much hope. I have some experience with PB in other games and these problems started out for most people with the new PB update on Sunday. In Farcry PB problems affected and still affect people totally at random theres no comman factor and people have really looked into it. I believe it is a PB problem because I can play fine on a non pb server or on single player. But will try the cache thing out later.

That is your Cache. You should listen to what he is saying. Also if you have uninstalled everything then make sure you only patch using 1.03. Lay multiple patches over each other can cause problems. I would also like to say that i have never heard about these "curtian" AMD's. Maybe you could enlighten me?

To elaborate, presenting other people's ideas as your own is known as plagiarism.

Besides that, I experienced similar problems with the game crashing. I made the mistake of uninstalling BF2. Now after reinstalling and trying to apply the patch something goes wrong and I can't even start the game anymore. For heaven's sake, why are the idiots at DICE let release games!

Not sure why you can't launch the game anymore unless you tried to take a shortcut or mdofiy stuff you shouldn't be. Did you try and tweaks with the game. Are you sure that you installed the patch correctly. I don't understand how so many people have these problems. Does anyone know how to trouble shoot? We are supposed to be the computer generation so prove it. So many people post on here before they have actually tried anything. They haven't even read anything. As a IT guy at work I find it frustrating when the end user doesn't give it a shot by themselves first. Or when they don't tell you what they have done because they are embarassed.

I like helping people but i like when they learn something about there computer too. It can be fristrating to have to trouble shoot the same problem over and over for the same person. There are so many thread about this already with the solutions. Use the search function.......

..but it's frustrating when the problem is likely so far out of your control like PunkBuster being borked

That's because if you only started seeing this problem recently, it is punkbuster. Try playing on a non-pb server and see what happens.

Re: how to fix crashing of battlefield

If you had followed the forums lately ppl have been suggesting to delete the content of Profiles folder for a long time, it is even covered in the readme.txt of the game:

                      CHANGES IN HARDWARE AFTER INSTALL

                      - Problems with PC hardware changes after you have installed
                      Battlefield 2.

If you change your video or sound hardware to a lower specification
after you have installed Battlefield 2, you may not be able to
                      start the game.

To remedy this use the Windows Explorer to find and delete the
                      directory:

                      \My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\

This will reset your game to the default settings. You can
now start the game, retrieve or create a new profile, and re-adjust
the settings using the Menu as normal.
That's all thats needed, you don't need to delete the other folders.

I did a complete wipe-out of Windows and reinstalled it. I then installed the necessary (and only the necessary) drivers plus BF2 to the default directory. I tried updating with the patch, but as always before I ended up with patching failed. When I first bought the game and used patch 1.02 it worked when I manually installed it. Now trying to install 1.03 manually there are no errors but the game won't start.

Try looking in the patchlog.txt, it is usually in this folder ..\My Documents\Battlefield 2\dmp\ but since you are doing it manually it might be in another folder, not sure.
Try doing a search in Windows for patchlog.txt on your harddrive. It can tell you if everything is patched properly and so on.

The reason I think it is AMD thing is because of the following forum post
The AMD Community is entering an exciting new phase—growing into a broader ecosystem of dedicated resources designed to better support and connect you.

Or it might be a thing with punkbuster cause it updated Sunday night...just so happens the same night it started to happen.

So when will it be fixed? I didn't spend 50 dollars on a game to have some outside half ass company runin the online gameplay for myself.
