Logitech G7 Mouse Review
I purchased a Logitech G7 wireless mouse last week and I felt compelled to write a quick review on it since I didn’t find much in the forums on the subject.
First of all I love it. I was using a Microsoft Intellipoint 2.0 corded mouse before and the pads were so old and crappy that it was like mousing on sandpaper. I also hated the weight of the cord and was tired of using tape and what not to keep it out of the way.
The huge pads on the G7 make it feel like its floating on a cushion of air which is actually proving difficult to get used to but I LOVE the fact that it is cordless. Being a true laser 2000dpi mouse the sensitivity is truly amazing. It is so good that it actually gets kind of annoying because when I double click on desktop files to open them sometimes it detects the slightest bit of movement between clicks which keeps the file from opening (both clicks have to be with the pointer in the same spot for it to count). As for in game sensitivity, I cant really tell a huge difference between this mouse and my old mouse even though my old mouse was merely an LED optical mouse. My old mouse must have been pretty precise.
I read that a lot of people were concerned about lag in cordless mice but I have to report that with the G7 there is absolutely no lag that I can detect, it might as well be corded in this respect. I also like that they provide 2 battery packs so that you never have to worry about being out of batteries.
This mouse has the ability to change the sensitivity in game directly on the mouse and it has a cool led indicator on the mouse that shows you what setting you are on. The software allows you to put 5 settings into the mouse between 400 and 2000 dpi. Even so I still only program 2 settings into the mouse, 1 for normal play and one at 400 dpi for sniping which I don’t even use all the time. BF2 already lets you pump up mouse sensitivity for vehicles.
The left and right tilt wheel is a welcomed addition to this mouse and I find them really useful for binding the pistol and the shock paddles (I play as a medic a lot). YES you can bind commands to every button on this mouse for use in BF2, you just have to bind the tilt wheels to keys and make sure you have the proper Setpoint (mouse drive software) boxes selected.
All in all I am very happy with this mouse, it is going to take awhile to get used to the perfection after learning to play with a much worse mouse. I got it shipped overnight from eCost.com for $87.XX. I read tons of bad reviews about eCost but they did a wonderful job for me.
