This guide is based on real-life experiences, with various players on various servers, during past 2 months.
You might notice similarities to "Attack chopper gunner guide", but that's because of similarities in roles
Oh, and... THIS SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY, THIS IS A JOKE! (sadly, people often DO things like these, in BF2)

You might notice similarities to "Attack chopper gunner guide", but that's because of similarities in roles

Oh, and... THIS SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY, THIS IS A JOKE! (sadly, people often DO things like these, in BF2)
Joining the game:
-----------------
- Look for 64 player servers. They need your expertise the most. After all, why would you practice or learn on empty or near-empty servers, when it's more fun doing it on fully loaded server?
- Check to see if chopper is already used. If not, logout and search for another server where attack choppers are being occupied.
- If attack chopper is occupied by pilot only, and he's crashing all the time (or hardly hitting anything), leave the server and look for another one.
- If you finally find a server where attack chopper is being used by pilot/gunner combo, and they're actually doing some work - this is the place you want to be.
- If pilot/gunner are from the same clan or are in the same (usually locked) squad - BINGO! You are definitelly needed here.
- And if you see that attack chopper is inflicting death all over the place and is helping your team - no question, this is the place you're looking for.
- At the end of the day, they should SHARE the chopper with you. You also paid for the game, so you have the right to use the chopper. And you're good at it, so what's the big deal?
Before takeoff:
---------------
- Choose sniper (M95) kit, if you have it. If not, choose spec-ops kit.
- If someone else is running towards the chopper, make sure you gun him/them down.
- In case there is an empty pilot seat, get in.
- If both seats are taken, take your M95 and teamkill the pilot. He would suck anyway.
- If you have spawned as spec-ops, place some C4 on the chopper, move away and detonate. They would suck anyway.
- Get in the chopper finally. If you still can't get in after chopper respawned, repeat M95/C4 steps.
- If someone jumped into gunner position, yell "Bail out!" repeatedly.
- Refuse to takeoff if someone is still in gunner position.
- Before takoff, make sure you rotate chopper for 360 (or at least 180) degress, while on the ground. This will help you get rid of any teammates who might be standing near chopper. They'd only disturb your takeoff.
- Start trying to take off. There is a HUGE bug in BF2, so chopper needs to powerup before taking off. Ignore the bug, and start tilting the chopper left or right, in order to takeoff faster. Try to hit some objects with chopper, while doing so. What's doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.
- Ultimately, you will be able to tilt chopper to its' side (having blades rotate into ground), thus destroying it. This will show your skills, and others won't be trying to take YOUR chopper anymore.
- If you couldn't get in, and can't blow the chopper or sniper the pilot/gunner, try to jump on (and in front of) the chopper so that you get teamkilled. You can then punish nasty pilot.
- I also suggest to apply for commander position at the beginning of the round. When you're commander, your flying skills improve, and you can best command from the pilot seat of the attack chopper.
- Never (and I'll repeat - NEVER!!!) use F9, F10 or F11 keys. It will reduce your BF2 score, and you might also lose ribbons/badges.
After takeoff:
--------------
- Find a way to completely ignore minimap. That's the golden rule. Map will only get in a way, and will distract you from more important things.
- Fly (if you manage not to crash and show off your l33t flying skills) to certain position of interest, and eject (press 'E'), and parachute out (press '9').
- Ignore the whining gunner, who might be writing a lot of nasty words. He should've ejected too. What a prick.
- Yes, attack choppers are meant to be used as transport vehicles, so just use it to transport yourself to desired position. That's why "Attack chopper" phrase has word "transport" in it.
- Make sure you never create a squad. Someone could (by mistake) spawn on you and take gunner position.
- If there is a gunner in your chopper, keep yelling "Bail out!".
- Crash. Crashing brings you points. More times you crash, better your score will be. There is a hidden "Crash test dummy" ribbon, which you can unlock with enough crashes. Won't tell you the number of crashes required, though.
In flight / during fight:
-------------------------
- What? You didn't eject or crash yet?
- Then do the most 3l33t thing in the known BF2 universe. Take the chopper, fly to enemy base and land it. Then bail out, and go shoot at enemies. Leave the chopper there. If enemies see it, they'll run for their lives, and your teammates will appreciate not having to worry about attack chopper on your team's helipad.
- It is of utmost importance to fly VERY low. Always look at altimeter, and make sure you never go above '7'.
- Fly as fast as possible.
- Besides flying low, it is very important to flight in a straight line (or as much as possible).
- When making turns (like when you're evading), pretend you're pilot of Boeing 747. It is very beneficial to make as wide turns as possible. Like through the whole width of the map, for example. Just follow what F-15/Su-34 pilot (with similar skills as yours) does, and repeat it.
- Never rotate your chopper. You can make turns (if F15 does it, why wouldn't you?).
- Since you are flying low, make sure you go BELOW things.
- If you're playing Dalian Plant, always pass below pipes. It shows your skills.
- If you're playing Kubra Dam, make sure you spend 80% of time in the pipe below the dam. People will be impressed.
- When you see a hangar/warehouse (like on Daqing Oilfields), go through it. Or at least go inside (if there is no other exit), and crash there.
- Never hover. It is very dangerous, since you are risking chopper stalling. It is easier to hit targets while flying forward full speed anyway.
- ALWAYS cap flags with attack chopper. When capping flag, NEVER rotate, move or turn. Just stay there with your chopper (landed, preferrably), and wait for flag to be capped. Because everyone f34rz your skills, noone will bother attacking you.
- It is best to cap flags when there are 1 enemy tank, 1 AA vehicle, 2 APCs, 2 jeeps and around 30 infantry present.
- If you decide to hover (although we've already established you should never hover), while capping the flag, make sure you hover at altitude of few meters. You wouldn't want your gunner to jump out and cap the flag as well, would you? If he does jump out, make sure you don't pick him up afterwards. That'll teach him.
- Remember - flying attack chopper is like driving F1 car. Only what happens IN FRONT OF YOU matters. Nothing ever happens elsewhere. So, don't bother looking left or right, or up or down. And there should be nothing behind you, so never waste your time with such silly details.
- Ok, attack chopper can shoot missiles. But you didn't need to know that. They are used to destroy things.
- Now, when you want to shoot/fight, flying techniques change. Don't stay very low. Increase altitude to 10.
- Always shoot 12 missiles in general direction of the target at 300m distance. Target might even see few of them, which makes for nice firework display.
- Best way to shoot at targets is to go upwards as much as you can. Then, point the nose down, dive and shoot all 12 missiles. Attack chopper is, at the end of the day, just evolved Ju-87 Stuka. This way, if missiles miss, you will be able to finish off the target by ramming into it. If all those plane pilots can ram, why couldn't you?
- Best targets, to kill with attack chopper, are - infantry. Make sure you find a lone engineer somewhere near the end of the Universe (just next to the restaurant) - or at least near the boundaries of the map. Then, wait for him to hide behind something, and then start shooting all missiles at him. Make sure you spend all missile magazines on this guy. He's very dangerous, you know? Alone, that far from everything else... he must be up to something BIG, I tell you.
- So, just to recap - if you see enemy choppers, tanks, APCs and 1 lone guy - you go STRAIGHT for the lone guy. If lone guy is not there - well, just look for him somewhere else.
- NEVER use CTRL key.
- NEVER repair. Only pus*ies go back to helipad for repairs. You're THE man, so you'll stay with your chopper as captain stays with his ship. If you are badly damaged, try to ram something before you die, btw. Don't repair.
- NEVER reload. Just crash or ram into something when you run out of ammo.
- NEVER use flares. Real men evade heat-seeking missiles by jumping out of the chopper.
- If you've decided not to follow the rule about flying straight (or making wide turns) - you really are adventurous.
- Try to make as many mouse (joystick) moves in a second as possible. Rotate as much as possible, and crash into anything you see. Fly with STYLE!
- What is that ball, in front of you? Oh, a helmet. What is it doing there? Damnit - there is someone in the chopper! INTRUDER ALERT!
- Repeat "Bail out!" command. And again. And again.
- He won't get out? Hmmmmmm...
- Crash.
- He's back again? Damnit! And he wants to shoot?
- Fly even lower. Lower you fly, better your gunner can see. This also guarantees noone will come at you from below.
- Don't bother trying to position the chopper so that there are enemies in your field of view. Gunner is busy anyway, watching his TV.
- When he starts shooting at something with his gun, you rotate (eh, that should be a "no-no") the chopper for 180 degress.
- If he still shoots, you point the nose towards the sky and crash backwards. It scares enemies.
- If, for some reason, you decide not to crash or rotate (while gunner is shooting), make sure you move the chopper left-right, up-down as quickly as you can. It improves gunner's accuracy, and gives him better view of the battlefield.
- If your gunner spots a target (chopper, plane, tank, ...), you just keep on flying in straight line, as slow as possible. Or even hover. Especially if there is an enemy attack chopper behind you.
- NEVER bother to understand what is that rectangle thingie on your HUD, near the bottom. There is, sometimes, a small square moving left-right inside it. It is just distracting you, so don't pay any attention to it.
- If you are damaged, and decided to go for repairs (you're nuts!), make sure you go back slowly. Especially if you were just in a dogfight with enemy attack chopper. Then, land slowly and nicely on the helipad (with your back still turned towards the area you just came from). And wait for repairs. Have a smoke. Watch TV.
- If you see enemy units (especially tanks) near your helipad - don't worry. Just go back and land, he won't even notice you. And if he does, he'll be scared because he already saw your skills. That guy on TOW is also going to run away, due to loud noise your chopper is making. It scares people.
- If there is a big firefight between your teammates and enemy, make sure you go in the opposite direction. Take advantage of the situation, and practice some free-flying above the sea (you can also get some very nice landscape shots there).
- If your teammates ask you "Why are you not coming to help us, when we're spotting enemy vehicles for you?" - tell them to f00k 0ff. Vehicles... Phew... That's why Anti-Tank kit exists.
- BUT - if your teammates spot enemy AA vehicles - fly there quickly, and hover 1m above it. Then ask the gunner "Why didn't you kill it??"
- Also visit enemy carrier. Preferrably when their AA positions are manned, their attack chopper just took off, Blackhawk miniguns are pointed at you and F35B is hovering above the deck. Make some stylish figures for them.
- While they're stunned with your flying skills, you quickly land near UAV, and get out. Try to kill UAV with your wrench, medikit, ammokit or smoke grenade, depending on which kit you currently use. Oh well, you just remembered you need to be specops to blow UAV. Too late, but never mind. You'll do it in 30 minutes when your attack chopper returns to helipad.
- If you are repeatedly getting shot down by enemy attack chopper, keep coming back for more. Simply, take the chopper again, and get shot down. After some time, they'll give up and leave the server. Ignore whining idiots on the helipad who are BEGGING you to let them take the chopper and take out enemy attack chopper(s).
- Hover above AA sites.
- Fly upside-down. This is the ultimate test of your skills.
Conclusions:
------------
- When noone wants to fly with you anymore, you've reached the level of expertise everyone dreams of. Everyone f34rs you. So they avoid flying with such high-skilled individual.
- Job well done.
