NOTE: BEFORE SOMEONE TAKES THIS TOO SERIOUSLY - THIS IS A JOKE
(well, it's what I saw others do, but you should NEVER do these things :))
Joining the game:
-----------------
- Look for 64 player servers. They need your expertise the most. After all, why would you practice or learn on empty or near-empty servers, when it's more fun doing it on fully loaded server?
- Check to see if chopper is already used. If not, logout and search for another server where attack choppers are being occupied.
- If attack chopper is occupied by pilot only, and he's crashing all the time (or hardly hitting anything), leave the server and look for another one.
- If you finally find a server where attack chopper is being used by pilot/gunner combo, and they're actually doing some work - this is the place you want to be.
- If pilot/gunner are from the same clan or are in the same (usually locked) squad - BINGO! You are definitelly needed here.
- And if you see that attack chopper is inflicting death all over the place and is helping your team - no question, this is the place you're looking for.
- At the end of the day, they should SHARE the chopper with you. You also paid for the game, so you have the right to use the chopper. And you're good at it, so what's the big deal?
Before takeoff:
---------------
- Choose sniper (M95) kit, if you have it. If not, choose spec-ops kit.
- Yell "Need a ride" repeatedly, as soon as you spawn, and run towards the attack chopper.
- If someone else is running towards the chopper, make sure you gun him/them down.
- In case there is an empty gunner seat, get in.
- If both seats are taken, take your M95 and teamkill the gunner. He would suck anyway.
- If you have spawned as spec-ops, place some C4 on the chopper, move away and detonate. They would suck anyway.
- Get in the chopper finally. If you still can't get in after chopper respawned, repeat M95/C4 steps.
- Start shooting around with chopper gun. Also fire at least one TV missile into ground, hopefully making some damage to the chopper so that you can spend some more quality time on the helipad getting repaired.
- Yell "Hit it!" repeatedly. It doesn't matter if chopper needs to get full power in order to perform takeoff. More you yell, faster the chopper takes off. Guaranteed.
- If there are other guys around chopper (who hoped to get in), tell them something like "Y00 sUcK0rZ n00b3rZ!"
- If you couldn't get in, and can't blow the chopper or sniper the pilot/gunner, try to jump on (and in front of) the chopper so that you get teamkilled. You can then punish nasty pilot.
After takeoff:
--------------
- Find a way to completely ignore minimap. That's the golden rule. Map will only get in a way, and will distract you from more important things.
- Purpose of the gunner is, often, to get to other places, and use the gun. So, parachute out of chopper when it has reached the place of interest. Then use your gun. Attack chopper is very fast transport vehicle, so make the best use of it.
- Don't forget to say something like "Take me to their main base!", so that pilot knows exactly where he should drop you off. This is very useful on maps where there is lot of AA defense along the way, since it increases the fun for the pilot.
- If pilot has created a squad (in order for gunner to join in and spawn on him), make sure you join it. This way, you'll always be able to get into your transport when you die.
- If you, for whatever strange reason, decide to stay in the chopper, make sure to take a smoke or toilet break. Or watch some news. Or make a phone call.
- If you get back to BF2 and are still alive as a gunner, decide to actually do some stuff.
In flight / during fight:
-------------------------
- When you see a vehicle in front of you, don't bother trying to figure out if it's a friendly or not. Just shoot. But, please, use the gun in order to shoot tanks/APCs, since gun is the most effective tool against such threats.
- You might want to press right mouse button. You will switch into mode which allows you to watch some TV. This is particulary useful when there is not much going on. The program tends to get quite boring, and it doesn't have any movie/music channels, but you'll get used to it.
- When your pilot quietly lines up against enemy vehicle, and starts hovering, you start shooting with gun. If pilot is still hovering, you shoot some more, until tank turns around and shoots at you. When the chopper gets shot down and pilot says something like "WTF MAN!? I was waiting for your to shoot TV missiles", you respond with "F*ck off n00b, you suck as pilot. You know SH*T ABOUT FLYING!". That will teach the naughty pilot. What TV missiles is he taking about anyway? You can watch some TV, but you didn't see any missiles on it. You know that pilot shoots missiles, but does he expect you to watch that on your TV? "No way man!"
- There is no point in spotting targets. Your pilot does the same as you, and does not watch minimap. So, if you see a chopper coming your way, just ignore it. If you see an AA vehicle on the ground, try to count number of missiles and AA rounds shot at you. It can be quite entertaining.
- NEVER try to figure out in which direction the chopper is pointed. Your gun position is the most important thing in the world, and pilot should always care where you look. If pilot spots something, you never assume it's in front of HIM - it must be in front of you.
- After 500 hours of playing in a chopper, you realized THERE ARE missiles in a chopper, which you can use. Neat.
- As other chopper missiles, these ones go straight, so you just need to worry when to shoot them. What usually works the best is to wait for pilot to approach tank or APC from behind. Then, start shooting your main gun (which, as we've already established, is the best weapon against heavy armor). When vehicle turns its turrent and starts shooting at you, pilot will (most likely) make a turn in order to run away. Now, this is exactly the best moment when you should shoot TV missile out. Preferrably while you are looking at the sky. Laws of gravity will make TV missile come back to the ground, and chance of it hitting the tank or APC are VERY HIGH. It just takes some practice, but once you master this technique, everyone will f33r y0ur $ki11Z.
- Experience shows that guns are best against armored vehicles, and TV missiles against infantry. So, use them appropriately.
- After 2,000 hours of playing in a chopper, you realized YOU CAN GUIDE TV MISSILES! WHOA! That is new! You yet don't understand how to do it (you've heard it from someone), but you'll give it a go. And you found out that you can click on the TV screen (so it is a touch-screen, after all) while TV missile is travelling.
- TV missiles are best guided when they're shot from close proximity to the target. Don't bother shooting from 450m distance, since it is pointless. Wait for chopper to almost touch the enemy target, then shoot the missile. Add obligatory "WTF pilot?!?! YOU SUCK!!!" when your TV missile misses the target. Then repeat.
Conclusions:
------------
- When noone wants to fly with you anymore, you've reached the level of expertise everyone dreams of. Everyone f34rs you. So they avoid flying with such high-skilled individual.
- Job well done.
