Cannot find installation file?

It is needless to say that this game is more trouble than it's worth, but i'm going try anyway..
While patching 1.3 i'm getting the message 'Cannot find installation file in BF2 folder' i've followed the instructions of creating a new file for it etc, but it isn't working, i reinstalled BF2, deleted the demo (which may have been causing the problem), and i'm now downloading the patch, if this doesn't work.. any suggestions?

whats your comp spec?
i had same thing happened before and people told me to reinstall everything and redownload the patch. but the window crashed during the process. i basically gave up on it and decided to go with the new pc.
it was old computer anyways i was just trying to messing around on all low setting but it wouldnt even let me lol!
and yes...BF2 can be pain in the a$$ if you dont know what you r doing

im using a 2.6 ghz processor
128 mb videocard (geforce 5200)
512 mb ram
I can play on single player fine, its just the patch that is not working

The new file you tried create is that the registry InstallDir, as explained here:

In the end of my post in that thread are two links to how to manually uninstall BF2 properly, if the InstallDir doesn't work.

Exactly..that is what happened to me.
whenever you r trying to play multiplayer, the screen refreshes itself and doesnt go to game loading mode right?
that was the reason why i wanted to get more servers by installing new patch but i guess that wasnt the problem for me. check if you r computer has any defects or error. some pcs that has around your specs that work just fine but some just dont. i would recommend you upgrade some parts.
ah ...so frustrating right?

I have recently reformatted my PC, everything is in perfect order, I just don't know what other options there are..

Everything is the same as it was 2 weeks ago when i did it, in default.. there shouldn't be any problems from my computer..

haha i agree but look at all these people who has never-ending problem with the game are so eager to fix it just to play because this BF2 ROCKS.
its that much worth it..

I can see where you're coming from, but lots of people would most likely quit it before they start because of these problems.

i dont think so. so many of peeps from this forum built the comp just to play bf2. ( i'm one of them! )
maybe only a small % of groups would quit even before they start playing which ive never saw one admitting that " I quit this BS." just wait and see til you get to play with 25 other people chanting as a team, it will make your purse go faster..
dude dont downgrade the situation. try to fix it there are so many experts who dealt with many worse cases are willing to help.
