Extended wait on log in

hi guys.. newb here...

Just started playing and my one question is this. When i load BF2 and click to log on, I end up having to wait extremely long to connect to the 'account server'. Is this normal? Any suggestions on how I could speed that process up? Everything runs very well once i'm in game.

My Pc: I run XP Pro, 2.8 P4, 1g Ram, 160gb @ 7200, Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb, plenty of cooling, and i'm on Cable internet that is normally very very quick.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Routine stuff, defrag, etc. If it works but just slow then it could also be a relay between you and the account server. Double check that your firewall and router (if you have one) allow BF2 to play though. Also double check that all IM, P2P and other programs are shut down.

ok, i'll try some stuff tonight. It's a fairly fresh reformat, bout 3 weeks I would say. I really don't run much on there. I don't have any messenger programs running or even installed on it. I have ventrilo, a few macromedia programs, and Everquest. Thanks for infoz.
