BF2 may have it's faults but...

    ... when it's good it's great.

In a break from the scheduled incessant flaming, ranting, complaining about kits/vehicles/whores & finding new things to ban, I thought I'd post a happy story about the best game I've ever played in, from last night. I don't want praise or flaming, just to share it :)

Kubra Dam is one of my favourite maps and I'm quite proud of my record on it. Perhaps it's because of my current score on it that I play harder to maintain it? Anyway. I joined the match fairly near the beginning but we were already on 150pts to the enemy 200pts. All CPs were enemy bar our (USMC) spawn, but we had a hostile tanks and infantry swarming all over us. We fought them off, pushing them out of our base, then proceeded to reclaim a couple of CPs but we still had our massive 50 point deficit. At some point our "glorious" commander turned tail and ran away so I stepped up and took over.

Over the next 30 minutes we proceeded to mount the most intense and exciting fightback I've ever played in. Knowing I couldn't sit idle and let my team fight alone I opted to play in reserve, defending CPs while the rest of the team went on the offensive.

As we passed the 100 ticket mark, now down to about 30 points behind, I checked the player list. We had 8 players to the enemies 12 - as an aside, what excuse can there ever be for not having autobalance on? Despite asking for balance, the opposing team were clearly content to take advantage of the situation and ignored me. Naughty admins.

Anyway, by the time we were at 50 tickets the gap had narrowed to 25 but we were still trailing. At this point my team had captured all CPs bar one, the half built house at the top of the hill near the right of the dam. All enemies were there and all my team were there fighting it out. We took the flag from MEC to neutral... I called in artillery and my team backed off and formed a ring around them. Still the MEC clung on! Somehow they fought us off and broke loose, capturing another CP and getting another lifeline. By now though the difference was only about 10 tickets. At 7 - 14 tickets I thought "we could win this" and shouted my thoughts to the team, commending them all (again!). Tickets started to "tick" down... I artilleried a clump of enemies, killing two but TKing a friendly - not an exchange I was happy to make at this stage - and for an agonising couple of minutes we were at 1 - 2. Then 1 - 1.

That shot of the dam and the "USMC has won the round 1 - 0" has never been so welcome :)

This was on the Ironhand server, in the UK I think. To go from 50 points down, to nearly winning by capping all flags, to winning by 1 ticket AND being 4 men down... makes for a great game.

Happy to hear about any more great games people have played, whether you won or not.

I've had two rounds that were 1-0 in the end, and yes, they are hard fought and great matchs. I also had one that was a draw, that one was lame for the commanders

Some of my favorite games I've played in was when I was commanding and all of my squads were communicating with me. It's amazing how effective you can be just by talking to your squads and having them talk back. It's also amazing how much fun you can have while coordinating multiple squads IMO.

one time on S@K I was in that back alley that you can take to the 1st MEC (it was captured by the USMC though) flag and flank it from the east, I'd just killed some poor fella and I was just kinda sittin there doin....whatever support players do (daydreaming about flying ammo bags)...a friendly comes along down the alley and he sees me taking a prone position looking down the alley, I look at him looking at me then get my eyes back on the alley then I see him out the corner of my screen take another look at me and another look down the alley and I can almost read the thoughts going through his head, he sprints down the alley to the next available cover and goes prone and stays there so I get up and sprint further past him and take the next bit of cover and he holds his position the entire time and waits until I set up before he takes his turn further down the alley...I don't know how many of yall are familiar with the term bounding overwatch but me and this guy went through like an 8 step bound towards that flag which is completely ****ing crazy because we weren't on the same squad or anything we just understood what the other was doing and it all randomly came together, the only thing is that we never actually ran into any enemies while going through our bounding pattern...too bad because we would've ****ed em up so bad :P but still it was probably the single brightest moment I've ever had so far in this game.

Nice to see that posts like this aren't totally overshadowed by thread after thread of whining and arguing.

          *sigh*
