    L-85 Tips

I know that a lot of people say this is a terrible weapon, and that it's bad in close quarters, etc... but I like it a lot. It works amazingly well for just about anything, as long as you play it in the right style. No crazy headlong dashes into combat for this gun.

    1) Use both single-shot and auto firing modes together. For example: You're sniping someone in single-shot mode with the L85A1. You've hit him a couple times, so it'll only take maybe one more shot to finish him. Before you can line that last shot up, though, he gets up a runs. Instead of taking the time to figure out how much to lead him by, just flip it into auto and lay down a wall of about 5-6 shots in front of him and you'll be more than likely to hit him.

    2) If you're using it on auto with the scope at, don't fire more than 6 shots at once. Burst fire it like the PKM and other support guns.

    3) Single-shot is best for long range (unless you just need one more hit, like in #1), firing in bursts of 3-4 with the scope while prone is best for medium range, and bursts of 6 or fewer are best for CQC.

    4) If you're in CQC, you want to be very careful. This gun has big disadvantages compaired to the M16 and other rifles if you're caught by surprise, unless your opponent is critically wounded already. Be sneaky. Don't go rushing blindly around corners where you can be surprised. Try to pull back a little to where you can comfortably use your scope and burst fire. If you must fight CQC, though, always aim for the head. It's all that'll save you if you're taken off guard by a more accurate gun like the M16, G3, or similar.

And now just a basic medic tip, since that's the class the L-85A1 belongs to, anyway.

    5) If you see a hidden sniper on your team whose health is low, don't throw medic bags at him. The enemy will see the + sign above the bag, and it will get attention. Instead, just walk over to him and heal him the old fashoned way; by hand.

Have you not seen the medic bag markers all over the floor? They are yours AND the enemy's...

I think the greatest advantage of the L85 is its scope. It actually does more damage than the M16, but is less accurate. I believe UBAR on the BF2S.com website has a good description of how this works.

If you can use that scope and the single shot mode to your advantage, it can be a great weapon. Just make sure you wait a good period between shots in single shot, because accuracy falls off greatly after the first shot.

Those medic bags are a dead give away for my claymore strategy. Just check your radar. if no friendlys are ahead of you, yet those little bags start appearing, you've got company

I agree with most of that, never just spray as you won't hit anything the best idea at close range is to burst about 5 shots.

Personally, I prefer the AK if I am playing the OPFOR. Seems to be just as accurate on single and auto, but hits a LOT harder than the 85 does.

Had the L85 as my first unlock second day of BF2 being out, and have been using it since.

Most of your tips are good, but I must say I disagree with a few. For once, keep the gun in single shot ALWAYS, unless they are right in your face and you have little chance for survival.

Even if they start running at long range, get used to the time it takes for the bullet to travel, and you'll be taking them down in no time. Switching to auto would be stupid, as it gives away your position to anyone who happens to be glancing in your direction, and chances are you won't be able to hit your target for the kill.

Singe shot. ALWAYS. Even in CQB, I personally prefer to use single shot, and just aim for the upper chest / head, rather than put it on full auto. This gun loses accuracy at an insane rate after the first shot, and was NOT made to be automatic.

Think of it more as a sniper rifle, with less damage, less distance, but with the ability to be used in closer ranges. Would you ever WANT to use a sniper rifle in full auto?

                    Re: L-85 Tips

I've always found full auto to work great at medium range. If, say, someone is a ways off around a corner, I'll switch it to full auto and roll out from around the corner and burst fire two groups of 2-3. Gets 'em every time. I've taken down three guys in rapid succession that way, and still had half a clip left. The reason burst firing works so well isn't that the base accuracy of the gun is so great, as it becomes very inaccurate after one shot, but because it regains it full accuracy in just a half second pause.

I can usually take down a target in single shot even while he's running, but if he's bobbing and weaving (which not enough people do) I'll switch to auto and send a spray of five or so bullets in his direction. Not long enough for someone to find me, unless they were already looking there, and likely to hit him. If I don't hit him, then I don't waste any more ammo on him and find a new target.

I got into medic awhile ago but after getting the L85A1 was disappointed with the scope accuracy and general damage of it. But I've been trying running around with semi on and I've been absolutely obliterating enemies today. Been like a healing sniper in squads and pulling off like 4:1 rounds with one lucky 11:1 round lol.
