Commander score just an average of the teamscoring

WARNING: This thread contains criticism of Battlefield 2 unrelated to bunny-hopping, dolphin-diving, and noob tubing. All who respond to this post are encouraged not to read it. If it becomes necessary to read this post, please take any quotes you may find by the me out of context. It is also strongly advised that you repeatedly bring up arguments only if they have been debunked previously in this thread:

I was playing as commander recently, killing with artillery, when a thought occured to me. I remember hearing a commander's points are ONLY based on an average of the team's score. Wouldn't this mean striking artillery, while very helpful, can be bad for your score as a commander, because you are taking those kill points away from your team? Since points are supposed to represent contribution to your team, shouldn't this be fixed? Yes, a problem would be that a commander would always recieve an above average score. Should the "average" system be ditched all toghether?

Potentially yes, although sometimes arty can help teammates earn points by softening flags, entrenched positions, etc. Also, arty can be diff between winning and losing round.

No. This is the 1.03 tradeoff for no arty friendly tk punishment.

Also there has been cases of Arty whoring (leaving commander seat the instant before arty strikes to get Killsx2 points (guess you could probly still do this).

No. Cmdr only gets above avg score if team wins and then commander s/b more rewarded imo.

Also, remember that for each kill you make with an Artillery stike, is a -1 per kill to the total tickets of your opposing team. conversly, the more team kills you commit, the rate at which your tickets drop are -1 per teamkill.

if you use artillery wisely, and minimize your teamkills, while maximizing kills, the sooner the game will end in your favor... and youll get that 2x bonus.

It can be good or bad for your score. If it helps you win, you get the 2x bonus. However, if it doesn't help you win because your team can do it on their own, then it hurts your score. It also hurts your score if your team is going to lose and your artillery strikes don't help, as someone said above, "soften" points for them to capture. However, used wisely they can be a great asset.

I disagree. I like the average of your team because it encourages good commanding from commanders rather than just selfish bombing. Say there is ONE friendly in a base and 10 bad guys, you arty the base you lose points. If it was based on anything other than average teamscore, this would make sense for the commander to do. However, even if the commander is selfish, it will not help him to do so.
I think the average system works great.
