Just thinking while walking home from work about the use of bayonets in BF2.
Could it be possible to use them?Have lil lungeing animation.?
I personally would love to fix bayonets when ran out of ammo and charge the enemy.

That would be so much better than a knife, but i doubt it'll happen.
Agreed the knife pretty useless and not that much fun to use.Be nice if someone could do it?Is it possible?
Maybe they'll include it in a mod, although if it was in a mod, it would probably be in like a WWI or WWII mod for BF2, but i still prefer bayonets above knives.
I noticed yesterday that the knife the US assault guy carries is a bayonet. Check out the little ring at the base of the blade, that goes over the barrell. Bayonets are dumb though, I'm pretty sure that if you talked to every single soldier who has served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, none of them would have used it even once for anything but opening their MREs.

Actually ex Soldier but lets be honest Iraq isn't a drawn out war it's insurgent style warfare.
Take the Falklands for example us British fixed bayonets and slaughtered the Argies:p

Must be hard on a soldier to take a life up close and personal, fighting over a bunch of incignificant islands. :hmm:

its not meant to be a bayonet, its just a combat knife that opens up some option if you run out of ammo, so it can be used as one. its not as long as a real bayonet either.
bayonets in BF2 would be pretty stupid really, unless its a WWII mod
bayonets were fun in MoH:PA...too bad EA had to go and screw that game up

Actually. It was designed to be a bayonet. The M9 Bayonet is it's designation.

Agreed. I think the knife is good enough. All you would really get out of this is a little extra reach.
why would they be stupid? people use knives in this game still and bayonets can be fixed to certain guns. Perhaps assault class and medics can be the only ones. I've been telling my brothers how much fun it would be. To make it fair just make the aim a little of when fixed.

Perhaps not during Iraqi freedom, but certainly afterwards. See here:
I remember hearing about that section who cleared trenches using bayonets and the butt of their rifle.Hardcore stuff.Apparently the said squaddies resulted to punching them silly till the insurgents weren't obviously still on this planet.
The knife is pretty poor unless lying down next to a sniper.
I think a guy advancing towards you with bayonet fixed would look pretty scarey stuff.
Good use of a bayonet isn't quite what you might think it is.
When in tight quarters and severely pressed (as in someone just jumped on you) a rife can be a formidable weapon when used as a club. A bayonet becomes an extention of that club that happens to be pointy and sharp. The portrails of bayonets as being things you just poke with is romantisized.
Tight quarters is bloody and savage and you're just as likely to want to use the butt of your rifle to break your enemies skull as you are to want to stab him.
The problem with is that most modern assualt rifles are designed to be lightweight and compact. Not attributes you look for in a good club. It's just a hell of a lot more efficiant to put a round into someone than to screw around with a pointy thing on your gun. If you run out of ammo, you're probably better off looking for a nice big rock or sturdy branch than to try swinging your rifle at him. Failing in that, you have your commbat knife and your nice heavy boots (those things break bones nice).
Now if you're just talking about fun factor, I'd like to see a butt smash button that would swing any weapon like a club. Loved that in Halo!
Just think how much fun pistol whipping would be!
