What's wrong with you guys?
I play Engi a lot, lay mines down frequently, and haven't had a TK in ages.
You might wanna start looking at yourselves instead of blaming others.

btw, no kit is better in close quarters combat than a shotgun (preferably the standard USMC Engineer shotgun)

in all seriousness, if an engineer has the jackhammer, is a decent shot and there is a UAV scan going, engineers can easily become killing machines. the only problem is reloading, but you can always switch over to the pistol, and in a pinch even the knife. I've gone 8 or 9-0 at the beginning of karkand before (not many times, but a few) and ran out of jackhammer ammo. I think the engineer class has great use repairing vehicles, and possibly abusing them, but engineers can also be quite deadly infantry.
also, this only applies with the jackhammer. the other two guns aren't powerful enough for the engineer to fight infantry for extended periods.
