I need some serious help deciding...

    The freaking Desktop!

    HEllo.

I'm new to this site and I find it very fascinating about everything in terms of getting the information. I wish you guys could help me to decide which computer I should get, of cource, I believe that customizing is the best way to go, but I'm so blind when it comes to modification for computer.

The fact is i can't hand build the comp even if i have all those necessary hardwares, and I don't wanna take the risk after spending thousands of dollars.

    1st option..

My friends recommend me to go with alienware Aurora™ 5500 which if i could lay down some specification that i configured online...

    AMD Athlon™ 64 3500+ with HyperTransport Technology
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2
Alienware® Approved 650 Watt ATX 2.0 Power Supply with Active PFC
    Alienware® nForce™4 SLI™ Chipset Motherboard PCI Express
    256MB PCI-Express x16 NVIDIA® GeForce™ 6800 GT
    1GB Low-Latency Dual Channel DDR PC-3200 at 400MHz - 2 x 512MB
    160GB Serial ATA II 3Gb 7,200 RPM w/8MB Cache
16x DVD-ROM Drive with Software DVD Decoder
Creative Sound Blaster® Audigy® 2 ZS High Definition 7.1 Surround Firewire
    Integrated High Performance Gigabit Ethernet

All of those for $1377 after $200 rebate. and Shipping is free ($99 value)

    2nd option - is Area-51® 5500
Everything else is the same as the one above except

    Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 650 w/ HT Technology 3.4GHz 800MHz FSB 2MB
    1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz - 2 x 512MB

But it will cost me for $1522 after $200 rebate and yes free shipping.

3rd option - surprise me!!!!!!!! please

My budget is not more than $1500. Plus I have around $1300 credit from bestbuy after returning crappy HP laptops that crashed just 10days after I purchased, so I'm willing to upgrade the parts with that money if its needed.

SO my thinking was that maybe i should just go with BOT model which is lowest but runs P4 3.4ghz and get x800XL and upgrade to 2g RAM..

But it the end, im so f***ing confused and exhausted after searching, looking, asking, bothering whatever you name it...sigh..

I just want to play BF2 with every maximum setting and I want it runnning smoothly without any laggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

Last but not least, why the AMD Athlon 64 3000+ is actually 2.0ghz?
compare to P4s processor speed, its not even comparison.
Why do people recommend AMD over P4 for gaming?
And do i need 2g ram to have full texture of the game?

Any comments are welcome but dont be just general about it but be specific if you can.:)

Thank you guys so much for taking time reading this BS.
    I appreciated it.

P.S i have BF2 game sitting on my desk crying...

            1. Go with the AMD. They consistantly get better performance than Intel. Not much better, but it will give you the most bang for your buck.

            2. Get 2 gigs of ram. It's the wave of the future and you'll thank yourself later when the next gen game engines require it. Plus, BF2 runs quicker and better than 1 gig.

            3. Go along with what the reader said above and GET WIMDOWS PROFESSIONAL EDITION!!!!!! XP home sucks and you'll have problems with it.

            4. AMD processors are able to achieve similar performance at slower speeds than Intel's because of how they're built. An AMD 3600 gets similar or slightly better performance running at 2.4 gighertz as an Intel P4 running at 3.6 gigahertz.

Don't buy Alienware unless you want your wallet to get raped.

To the poster above: There is no "AMD 3600".

              3000+
              3200+
              3400+
              3500+
              3700+
              3800+
              4000+

Oh and AMD DOES give you MUCH better performance than intel.
