1.03 & server prob. * AlSo: Easy if you dont like the movies...

I keep reading about people that make changes, (or delete) in the bf2 files so the movies don't play, skip the intro etc.
Then theres the problems that at times are associated to such changes.

As soon as the intro movie gets under way, on pretty much any game I ever played, (esp bf2) just press ESCAPE key and presto, you are at the login screen. ("Welcome to duty...")

I have the same irritating message owing to a server incompatibility saying "revert to current modification version"
B.S. since having to reinstall the game, then the 1.03 on top of it.
It all ran great prior, then I had an issue with a piece of the BF2 file memory, reinstalled, (twice since) and still trying to get back to the gameplay.

My latest find was EA saying to manually uninstall ala

You can manually uninstall the game by removing the files and registry keys associated with it. Be sure to follow these steps exactly as they appear to prevent accidental file/program deletion on your system.

    To delete the save files:

    1. Open My Documents.
    2. Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
To delete the game files (in the default location):
    1. Open My Computer.
    2. Open the C drive.
    3. Open the Program Files folder.
    4. Open the EA GAMES folder.
    5. Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
    6. Close all open windows.
    7. Right-click on the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.

To edit the registry and remove Battlefield 2:
    1. Click on the Start button.
    2. Click on Run.
    3. Type regedit in the text field.
    4. Click File and then choose Export.
    5. Name the file Backup and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
    6. Click Save; you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
    7. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
    8. Click the plus sign next to Software.
    9. Click the plus sign next to DICE.
    10. Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
    11. Click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
    12. Right-click and choose Delete on any Battlefield 2 folders.
    13. Click the plus sign next to Microsoft.
    14. Click the plus sign next to Windows.
    15. Click the plus sign next to CurrentVersion.
    16. Click the plus sign next to Uninstall.
    17. Right-click and choose Delete on the key named {04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B}.
    18. Close the Registry Editor.

Battlefield 2 should now be completely uninstalled. If anything appears to be working incorrectly after editing the registry, simply double-click on the Backup file on your desktop to restore the old registry.

It goes on to recommend reinstallation via safe mode. I'll post if I manage to get gameplay back...

Do you have the error before u put the patch on?

I constantly get it with the patch, but without the patch no problems at all!!!

Re: 1.03 & server prob. * AlSo: Easy if you dont like the movies...

O.k. in my case, the PC is a p4, w/asus MB, 128 Mb nvidia, and a gig of RAM. OS is XP prof.

For my server problem which is now history (how long?) I did the following, and seems it did the trick. HOW or WHY is the story I would tell if I weren't so old, OR if I could type. At any rate...

Did the manual uninstall like above ^ except I did not dump my profiles. (3) What I did instead was to delete the "server" files and the Map files that were in the profile folders. I can't say if thats why my pose worked. (srry)

I then rebooted into safe-mode, and installed the game
      shut down.
Rebooted and went to:filecloud.com and downloaded BF2 patches 1.01, 1.02, and 1.03 into a single folder.
Decided safe mode would be prudent IF patches failed to get me past server problem, plus, I was tired and lazy. To be clear, I went to the folder and installed 1.01 under normal operation cond.

Patch 1.01 failed. so I tried the following:

Opened the BF2 1.01 patch, selected english, got to the install wizard, dragged window out of way without closing OR clicking install.

Opened the IE window (online) and in the address bar typed: %temp%

      then L click "go"

The folder that pops up has several folders within. 3 of those will be folders with alpha/numeric names like: {3092AE6-L3O... etc.
hover the pointer over each till you find the one that has a discriptive "corecomp ini." and L click.

another alpha/numeric folder appears, L click that one.

Now there are files and if it is the correct folder, most of the files have "patch" in their title. So L click "edit" then L click "select all"

L click "edit" again and L click "copy to" then create a folder in "local disk C:\" and name it: patch (I am not really imaginative)

L click "start" then "run" and type: CMD
      press "enter"

      Type: CD\
press "enter" and you should see a: C:\

      Type: cd patch
press "enter" and you should see a: C:\Patch\

Then you create a path to your actual BF2 installation directory
      using quotation marks: "drive letter:\Path_To\Your_BF2_Folder\"
(note... I can't provide examples for every possible configuration, srry)
Press "enter" and if it works the patch will be installed.

If you happen to get a "drive letter:\Path_to\Your_BF2_Folder\" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file Response, leave the dos shell window w\o closing...

...Bring the patch "Installation Wizard" window back to the front and L click "install"

In two seperate patching situations I have tried this and lo/behold, the patch installed successfully, again I couldnt tell you why, srry.

After each patch installs complete with no failure, shut down, then reboot prior to the next patch.

THIS IS A DISCLAIMER: I am by and large and by no means a computer whizz, geek, or know-it-all. I have a bulletproof motherboard, that is manufacturer touted as crash-proof/very forgiving in most PC frying situations, (stupid proof was one of the necessary features that I shopped for) and I have done stuff that has caused PC savvy friends to shake their head or look at me like I was a KOOK while amazed that my PC worked fine
and w/o any loss of files etc. So if you are looking for a tried and true "fix" that is written by a knowledgeable individual THIS AINT IT. I can only say that I did this and now I got gameplay with no issues, lag, or messages.

If you are certain of any problems that might lurk under the method I have detailed here, by all means SAY SO! you won't hurt my feelings. If this helps you with your issues, I'll see you at the Dalian Plant. Look for the wacky-assed pilot in a J-10 or that "clown" NOOBIN in armoured veh.s

      Battlecry,
      we all shall die.
      Spawn back,
      mount an attack,
      the cyco pilot will FLY!
      ...ain't war hell? hehhehhehheh...

        WOW thats a big response.

A couple of times I've completeed the install of 1.03 either from.exe or manually, but would you believe it, still getting the content error.

Might try the patch in safe mode though or take some RAM out, I have 1gig (1x512 and 2 x 256 Crucial ballistix) not OC'ed.

Or wait for the add-on, EA are bound to release a patch for that, you never know it may work!!!!!
