Re: kills & commander mode!!
Even the kills you do get with a weapon don't get doubled.. so just spend your time hanging out at your base fixing your stuff.. cause it isn't like a squad is gonna do it for youComment

Re: kills & commander mode!!
i think a commander should do mainly commanding, like once i played on a server, and the commander was running around like the rest of us grunts and wasnt commanding, and that made us lose so i think a commaner should stay at base commanding, i dont play as him online but on offilne i used him for a while and the commander can do quite a lot of stuff and if used well can really help the teamComment

Re: kills & commander mode!!
lol this discussion has been had before in much greater depth and I think the general consensus then was that an active (i.e. mobile) commander can be a much bigger asset to the team than a passive one (i.e. sitting in base waiting for stuff to recharge, or for artillery to be dropped on him), and vice versa. It all depends on the map and the circumstances at hand.
You can't simply say "a commander should always sit at the back" as it's simply not true.Comment

I agree, a mobile commander is a more valuable asset than non moblie.Originally posted by Ind1golol this discussion has been had before in much greater depth and I think the general consensus then was that an active (i.e. mobile) commander can be a much bigger asset to the team than a passive one (i.e. sitting in base waiting for stuff to recharge, or for artillery to be dropped on him), and vice versa. I play karkand mostly, and in many circumstances I did stay at the back base defending aginst spec ops destroying my precious uav. If they actually did, no harm done I always play engineer when cmdr.
*edit*Hmmm. I just noticed my stats are off by around 1500pts
I have over 25k and counting. (sigh) damn server work damn you!!!!

Re: kills & commander mode!!
I think on certain maps commanders should take it upon theirselves to defend a flag, preferably one that has the most valuable equipment. Eg. Kubra dam MEC main, Karkand MEC Main, Sharqi USMC TV Station...etc. We all know the important flags that if lost the round is in jeopardy. Depending on the map either use spec ops kit or engi kit. C4/mines can be great for defense. I don't play commander much but when I do..I love watching (via satellite) a squad come to the TV Station on sharqi and go into the flag zone and blowing my c4 that I have on the ceiling and walls.Comment

Re: kills & commander mode!!
bit arrogant that. True, in an "ideal" clan-type situation your squads will be requesting things and needing guidance a lot more but on a public server where most people are lone wolves, most squads ignore orders and things move too quickly in too many places I think that a mobile commander is actually a bigger asset. For instance I can help cap a CP then hold it while the rest of the team instinctively capture another point. I can see enemies attacking my CP before they even know I'm there then when we advance further I can move up the map. If we're flanked and they try to capture more distant CPs I can help my team, move to the CP under threat, defend it then help the squads again.Originally posted by pteganI laugh in the face of anyone who thinks that they can be a active commander on 64-player Karkand and expect to do their job properly.
It takes less than a second to open the map, see where the UAV is needed, use it and then start moving again. When I am secure I can scan, spot, arty and move again.
Against static commanders you can drop arty on them all game, or direct spec ops at them. This essentially guarantees you 20 odd tickets AT LEAST. By moving, not only does the enemy not know who the commander is but he has no easy option for arty.
Dropping arty on 1 stationary person getting a kill is better than dropping it on a clump of 10 only for them to all move out the way.Comment

I think you do, but not in game.
since going as commander my k/d ratio has shot up to about 1.75 from 1.5Comment

Re: kills & commander mode!!
If the commander takes cover like he should than you can waste all the arty you want. Playing as engineer, taking cover is the best thing you can do for your team. I don't care who you are you can't move and fight, and have consant supply drops, UAV, scanning and spotting enemy, and drop arty, direct troops on the battlefield (all of which are the commanders job) and be effective. The only time I can see it happeneing is when you are playing with your clan all on vent or TS and then you can verbally direct, other than that, playing with random people that you can't communicate with you have to rely on them knowing where to go and grasping the field as a whole instead of their own little part.Originally posted by Ind1goAgainst static commanders you can drop arty on them all game, or direct spec ops at them. No, nor do you get point for destroying enemy assets, and I am pretty sure in game kills neither.Originally posted by Idaeusso u dont get kills for arty then? =)Comment

Re: kills & commander mode!!
It doesn't have to be an 'ideal' server. Even if there are no squads I'll drop UAV where I feel needed and if I see lone-wolves heading towards a flag where there is no UAV, I'll spot the bad guys for them.
I'll fire of a scan, then drop a UAV and then zoom in full to where the advantage that I offer is needed by spotting targets that are threats to my team.
If the other commander wants to waste arty by dropping it on my then so be it...you can get away with a mobile commander on a 16-player but not, IMHO, on a 64 player map. there's just too much to do to be running about at the same time.Comment
