    Upgrading computer, what next?

Hey everyone first post here, and i was just wondering currently im running an AMD athlon xp 2000+ and 1 gb ddr ram and an ATI radeon x800xl agp card and a POS motherboard. i currently can run bf2 on medium to my likings in framerates and such, iveeven tryed the ultrahigh hack and it ran fine, but the framerates dropped to 25 to max 40, too low for me:p and on low i can hit 70+fps but it looks like **** IF anyone can tell me what im gonna need to upgrade next to get it to run smoothly on high. any help will be greatly apreciated. im buying as soon as someone answers.

u need a diff proccessor tha would be a big step up.but if ur running a athlon 2000+ then ur motherboard is prob not capable of taking on a 64 bit then i guess the way to go would buy the athlon 3000 that should help a pretty good bit an maybe slap some more ram on there but 1gig is good enough i think.i hope this helps but if ur mother board is capable of running the athlon 64bits i suggest getting atleast a 3200 or more.its not to much out of ur wallet.

U can try a bit more ram, but a better processor would be best thing to do (probably w/ a new MoBo).

I'd go for the Intel processor given the choice. But if you have the extra money I'd get an AMD 3500 64 . Then I'd upgrade to 2 gigs of RAM. With this setup and an ATI 800XL BF2 should kick much A&&.

Your x800xl should bench higher it is the better card.
Make sure you have the latest drivers.

For major upgrades, longevity is the key. No use spending a lot of cash on old technology.

Your problem is that if you change your processor, to get any longevity in it you will need to change your motherboard. If you change your motherboard, you really dont want to buy old AGP technology just to suit your graphics card, which will also mean a new PCI-e card

I would suggest that you don't flog a dead horse, possibly go for extra ram (this brings big improvements in this game) & then keep your money in the bank & save for more major upgrade in the future.

Mate, you asked for opinions & I gave you mine.

In the end it is up to you how you spend your money. I trying to get across to you that when doing a major upgrade you need to look at how your pc will look in 2/3 years & how you can upgrade further in that time.

Don't know if you noticed, but I have a 3GHz processor, but today, if I had something inferior, I woudn't select it because it has an extremely limited shelf-life.

                        Re: Upgrading computer, what next?

RAM does make a big difference. If you want to run textures on high, you need at least 1.5gig preferrably 2 gigs of RAM.

But your decision was wise, the processor and CPU were probably a bigger problem than your gig of ram.
