Some sort of spiking lag

Ok Information for you first:

P4 2.8ghz 800fsb
1gb pc3200 ram
Aiw 9800 pro
Soundblaster Audigy

Whats wrong: well im having this problem with lag, the in game menus jerk and in game i spike although my ping doesnt :/ , before 1.03 my game was running fine at a constant fps between 40-60

What ive tried:
Reinstalled bf2
Cleared Cache
Cleared Profiles
Used 5 spyware cleaners, my pc is as clean as a whistle
Got rid of needless programs while playing
Updated mobo chipset and gfx drivers

Effect: Still the same although before i installed 1.03 i went into bf2 and my game wasnt jerking at all, and sp seemed fine for the few mins i played (though i didnt buy bf2 for sp )

Game settings:

1152*864*32
Medium Textures
Shadows off
AA: 4*
Af: 4*
Lighting: High
Texture Filtering: High
Geometry: High
Terrain: Medium
Effects: High
View Distance: 80%
Dynamic Light: HIgh

Any help would be greatly appreciated, any more info needed just ask.

Is that the settings BF2 detected? Im sure my old 9800pro was medium across the board, you might wanna try that? Also, trim down your services if you havent via services.msc

I've also found that sometimes the shaders arent optimised, originally although selected i had no AA in game, then after changing the settings for like the 6th time, the AA worked been better ever since. Try reverting to default the adjusting, i wouldnt go higher than 2x on the 9800
