Man, has anyone ever played the game, "Rise of Nations"? I never played an RTS like it before . I mean....I played varias Command and Couquer games....Dune 2000...etc but this it a ton better imho. Its way more complex and the gameplay seems very different. It may not be up to par when it comes to graphics with games like Generals or whatnot, but I really love the gameplay...at least for a change.
Ill explain it a bit. You know how in most RTS's, you are out for one source of energy or whatnot. Whether its tiberium, or mining, etc its normally not much of a concern. In Rise of Nations...there are MANY different resources you have to race the enemy to get faster. Farms, logging, mining, oil drilling, fishing, as well as other valuable resources layed throught the map.
While thats one thing you have to gain, you also have to research in your "library" to advance to new technologies...and eventually advance through entire Ages of time. To do this you need knowledge, whch requires many Universities with scholars studing hard at work. Once you gain technology you can improve your weapons, methods of gaining resources, invent new things, and so on.
Another requirement, which is one of the actual studies - is military. It is another more important feature in the game. You are racing to get better technology than the enemy. You need to have better swords, better armor, better arrows, longer distance arrows, horses, forts, rifles, vehicles, more advanced vehicles, aircraft, anti-aircraft, artillery, missiles, more advanced aircraft, planes etc....and eventually AI as well as other main features. It was crazy. I was playing on medium mode I believe and at constant battle wit hthe enemy. Plotting main attacks against cities, capturing the city and have a huge counter attack take it back. Had huge bombing rads over cities as artillery rained down on other assetts, I was constantly attack from stealth bombers and guided missiles. Eventually i studied ICBM nuclear missiles.....began to bomb things with it. They really blow stuff up...eventually it ended in apocalypse (literally its possible) due to all the nuclear missiles I had throw around since conventional warfare was too difficult.
I bet there are other game like this out there, its jsut my 1st on playing them. Chewck out the link below....and read about it...the studies...theages....military...etc.
