    Re: Expansion pack?

I'm 50 / 50 on buying the expansion pack i had so many problems because of the 1.02 patch. When your machine restarts for no reason and leaves you stuck at a blue screen because of a game it realy puts you of playing it did me for nearly 2 months. Although the 1.03 patch did fix my stability issues the bugs are all still there and more to aswell but i can actually risk my machine now and play ive very rarley crashed recently. Only thing i want realy out of the expansion is to play as the S.A.S. on a Ranked server if the maps are good thats proberly all i will play. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i want it but i dont want it because of the crap i know i can get from there bad programing. Hmm i think i will buy it but this is no joke if i find anything thats screws my machine up ill never buy anything to do with EA or Dice ever again. And if it damages my machine theyve had it its £50 a neecap were i come from god i hope its good.

Air, it's polluted, don't breath it. Yada yada.

      Planes crash. They do. Boycott.

      Get the picture?
I get that you aren't very good at making a counter-argument. Boycotting air and gas is pretty well out of the question, given how essential they are to most people. Planes too, for that matter, are pretty critical for business operations. You can, in the case of gas and planes, use other brands if one brand isn't conducting itself like you think it ought to.

On the other hand, BF:SF isn't essential for anyone. And you can send EA a message by not purchasing its product - that is, after all, the only power consumers really have.

Bottom line: You can't refute an argument by exaggerating it to the point of absurdity. That's like saying we shouldn't help Hurricane victims because we might as well be helping sore throat victims, and then papercut victims.

If they taught you that tactic in school, I'd ask for your money back.

Complaining after the fact won't work - not with EA. Once they have your money, their internal meetings will show another resounding success, and continue to validate a consumer-inconsiderate product development strategy. And then nothing will change. No heads will roll. No one will raise an eyebrow.

Then you'll get BF3 with all of the same boneheaded issues as BF2 - same sh1t, different game. And everyone will sit around wondering how this happened, again, and why they haven't gotten the message by now. I'll tell ya - it's because we're not sending it.

I'm going to assume that you are a software developer based on the comments. So surely you've been asked to release code before it was ready, and sure enough bugs were found? It happens. That's what happens when companies drive delivery dates. And you know what, it's better than the alternative. If we waited for developers to say it's right, we'd be waiting half our lives for the game to come out.

My only complaint against EA is that they are not patching often enough. You guys are right. That server browser is awful. For God's sake, fix it EA.
No I havent seen the code... but I have spoken by phone with several
people who had input to the code itself.. from Sweden... Yes, I am
a software engineer.. I own a small software company that produces
custom accounting software, which as you know is not very graphic
oriented, however, there are right ways to write code, and wrong ways.

What I was told by an insider at dice is that the code was so enormous
that it took the 2nd team of programmers nearly 3 months to even figure
out the structure so that they could begin work on the patches/fixes.
I have also heard from this board and others that the people at dice all
went on vacation the week of release.. This fact alone, all by itself,
tells you what youre dealing with..

All in all, I like the game.. although, with only 10-11 maps, its gonna get
boring quickly.. I only play 3 maps these days, never play the rest..

I, personally, do not want support from EA/DICE.. I wish they had the
approach that EPIC has.. that is.. release title..fix bugs quickly..give the
games community the power to modify, change, add, delete, etc. whatever
they wish.... just like Unreal Tournament series.. There are still a thousand
online servers playing UT 1999... why? because still, to this day, new
maps, skins, mods, etc come out for it weekly.. and their last release
UT2004 is the same... Thousands of maps..skins, mods, etc.. it keeps
the game fresh.. it keeps it on peoples hard drives..

BF2 will not last 4 more months on mine, probably..before I am bored with
          it..

Because we already paid for it. And it's fun. But given the opportunity to make another BF purchase, we're not convinced that it'll be worth the inevitable hassle.

Agreed. And if I remember correctly, in one of the interviews, they said it was programmed in C++...which really isn't the hardest danged language to learn. I'm not fluent in it, but the classes I've had on it showed good practices in programming and such. And as far as not knowing the structure....looks like DICE doesn't know how to comment their source code...

The only reason a boycott won't work is people like you who don't believe it will. Boycotts ARE powerful tools, it just takes people with a little thing called self discipline to actually do it. Not buying something sends a darned strong message.

Well Rome wasn't built in a day but I have to say EA and Dice could have done a better job to work some of the bugs out of the game before releasing it.

                              Re: Expansion pack?

                              Wow, what a great thread.

Simple economics dictate that if EA publishes crap, demand will go down and gamers will look elsewhere for a good gaming experience. Then they will either find better developers, or go out of business.

But, I think the problem is bigger than that. IMHO, the gamers don't spend enough time on one game. I mean, I've only had BF2 since July, I'm not ready to move on to an "expansion pack" or to another game.

Since Half Life, I expect a game to have a lot longer shelf life on my hard drive, I mean. Up until HL2 came out last November, I was still playing HL mods that were, for me as an original owner, free.

So, I agree with ||ass||variable, DICE and EA should focus on enhancing the experience for BF2 owners, not developing expansion packs so they make more money. They need to take care of their customers, not take advantage of them.

I didn't play BF1942, so I don't know what that was like, but before BF2 came out, I read about how succesful 1942 was and that BF2 was going to that much better and that DICE had a built in following, sounds like they are messing that up.

EA does not own the market on gaming, right now it's wide open and diverse, and that's a good thing so that we gamers can choose not to buy crap.
