I've been reading these forums for a long time...but this is the first time I've bothered to register.


Anyway, you only need to press 9 ONCE to open the chute at the proper time. If you spam 9, yes, the chute will open and close randomly. Also, if you touch anything on the way down, the chute WILL close.

In other words, you cannot successfully chute down a hill or down a wall.

there is a glitch theres been countless times i have pressed 9 to open only once and the friggin thing still doesnt open

Just bind parachute to "F" (or something closer to WASD than "9") - it makes things a million times easier when bailing from helicopters and jets. I did it the day the BF1942 demo came out and never looked back. Half the problems people have with parachutes are caused by them hitting a button other than "9" in their frantic attempt to hit the parachute key.

Why Dice set "9" as default for parachutes is beyond me. It makes absolutely no sense and is hard to hit when you need it - which is not all that often.

I binded it to one of my side buttons on my X518 mouse, works great now. I always had trouble using "9" for whatever reason.

Ever since I assigned Backspace as my new parachute key I haven't been affected by this so called 'bug'.

I did today... on Fushe Pass. I jumped off a high cliff, pressed 9, and the chute opened. On the way down, I clipped an outcrop, the chute closed and I quickly pressed 9 again. The chute opened and I landed with 2 bars of health missing... I'd call that a successful base jump, although interestingly, the fella behind me crunched down hard and died. I did something similar on Kubra Dam the other day...

I don;'t think there is a bug at all. There a couple of factors to consider when using the chute. 1) Do you have enough falling time to actually open the chute? and 2) Are you trying to chute down a slope? Both scenarios will end in a splat worst case.

All should be fine as long as you hit the chute button when your gun disappears (or you start hearing the wind rushing sound)
